Progyny is hiringaVice President of Applied Machine Learning to jointhe Business Strategy and Analyticsteam in New York City.Our team is at the forefront of key strategic initiatives of the nation's leading fertility benefits management company. In this role, you will report to the GVP of Business Operations, Strategy, and Analytics, lead a focused team of data scientists, and play an integral role in the development and expansion of Progyny's use applied ML methods to better understand member behavior and engagement. Your background in delivering actionable, targeted results from exploration and understanding of complex data sets will bring structure to R&D initiatives at forefront of our behavioral analytics and help ensure pull through to strategic, bottom-line improvement in business outcomes. The best candidates will have demonstrated experience working with NLP / free text data and a passion for seeing their generated insights turn into direct strategic initiatives. You will learn thenuancesof fertility, dive into the complex world of healthcare analytics and contribute to meaningfulchanges in the way we approach the marketplace with our growing suite of fertility and women's health products.

What you'lldo...

• Set the strategic vision for ML and related data science initiatives as we strive to analyze the patterns in member behavior most closely associated with effective outcomes to both drive outreach initiatives and inform internal training
• Lead a team of data scientists to ensure clear connection of their work to corporate goals, and set benchmarking standards to continuously evaluate progress against exploratory work tracks with the goal of effectively prioritizing precious team capacity against the most promising outcomes
• Work with both third-party and custom/in-house models to understand strengths and weaknesses of targeted investment in each (build vs buy), with the goal of balancing near-term progress vs long-term capability
• Work across teams, notably the Emerging Technologies Engineering function, to build the technical infrastructure needed to design and serve our preferred long-term train/test/deploy process
• Mine all artifacts of member engagement, from call transcripts, cases, digital event metrics, and raw financial data to produce the most complete possible picture of member behavior, assist with member segmentation / persona development, and inform multiple operational functions including marketing, call center, and more
• Present often complex analytical insights to key stakeholders in a way that is easy to understand and actionable

About you...

• 10+ years of data science experience with a clear and demonstrated focus on machine learning
• Master's or better in a quantitative scientific discipline required
• Experience leading research functions and evaluating the likelihood of meaningful discovery vs allocation of resources
• Semantic analysis, NLP, or other experience with free text assessment required; when working with commercial models, deep understanding of prompt structures is preferred
• Demonstrable expertise with Python required; experience with common data science and ML libraries (PyTorch, Tensorflow, or similar, as well as standard libraries like Pandas, SKLearn, etc) is expected as part of your experience
• Demonstrable proficiency with SQL is required
• Experience writing models designed to leverage distributed computing environments is strongly preferred
• Prior experience with data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI, Cognos, Tableau, Looker) preferred
• Enjoys learning, dissecting, optimizing, and ultimately owning existing modelling methodologies
• Organized and methodicalwithvery strong attention to detail
• Demonstrated ability to be adaptive and inquisitive; natural problem solver
• Ability to work autonomously with minimal direction on multiple endeavors at once
• Driven to deliver results with the ability to establish rapport, earn trust, and effectively collaborate with others

In compliance with New York City's Wage Transparency Law, the annual salary [wage] range for NYC-based applicants is: $210,000 - $220,000. There are a variety of factors that go into determining a salary range, including but not limited to external market benchmark data, geographic location, and years of experience sought/required. Progyny offers a total compensation package comprised of base salary, cash bonus, and equity.
