Inova Alexandria offers both acute care and outpatient rehab services and is proud to be recognized as a Joint Commission Center of Excellence for Spine, Hip, & Knee Replacement, a Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center and accredited by AACVPR. We offer mentorship and a wonderful culture to thrive in. This position is working with our outpatient patients.

The Occupational Therapist 1 adheres to department policies regarding the timeframe, form, and content of written evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries. Communicates effectively with patients, family, medical staff, care team members, students, supervisors, and outside contacts while completing all administrative tasks and other responsibilities in support of the operating unit.

Schedule: M-F, 40 hours a week. Some flexibility

Job Responsibilities:


  • Documents evaluation results clearly and completely according to department policy.
  • Completes daily progress notes that reflect patients' responses to treatment, actual performance and an assessment as to status, relevant to the treatment plan, and eventual discharge needs and treatment summaries if needed.
  • Completes discharge notes that include a summary of the course of treatment, progress toward goals, discharge needs, recommendations for follow-up and patient and/or family education.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, medical staff, care team members, students, supervisors and outside contacts.
  • Provides educational materials and methods appropriate to patients' level of understanding and motivation.
  • Demonstrates essential skill competencies in the use of treatment modalities, equipment and protocols. Performs re-evaluations according to department guidelines - adjusting the treatment plan as needed.
  • Showcases current knowledge of the application of therapeutic techniques and evaluation methods.
  • Assumes complete responsibility over the course of Occupational Therapy patient management from the time of initial contact to discharge for functional progress, safety and treatment outcomes.
  • May perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education: M.S. in Occupational Therapy
Certification: BLS through American Heart Association (AHA)
Licensure: VA License required

Experience: 1-3 years in outpatient hospital setting preferred
