Job Summary:

The purpose of the Fleet Area Maintenance Program Manager is to ensure the design, functionality and maintenance of our fleet equipment and systems sustains safe, reliable, and efficient transport operations to successfully deliver Messer products to our valued customers.

Principal Responsibilities:

- Responsible for approximately 24 commercial fleet mechanics & 10 maintenance facilities across area providing leadership and technical expertise ensuring standard operating procedures are met and driving quality maintenance programs at each site. Drives timely preventative and corrective maintenance completion rates to maximize equipment utilization rates and reliability.

- Manage fleet repair and maintenance budget providing guidance to mechanics and zone transport managers. Ensure the best use of operational funds consistently seeking productive methods to reduce costs and increase efficiencies.

- Manage fleet capex projects to continuously upgrade maintenance facilities and opportunities to enhance our internal repair and maintenance capabilities. Coordinate with the tractor & trailer program managers to effectively manage the lifecycle of our assets from new equipment in servicing to rehabilitation to final disposal and replacement.

- Champion continuous improvement projects and lean initiatives for fleet maintenance shops with special emphasis on 6s implementation & sustainment.

- Responsible for being the area resource for technical expertise of fleet equipment and emergency response consisting of tractors, cryogenic straight trucks, cryogenic trailer, tube trailers, rail offloading equipment, railcars, cylinder equipment, vacuum pumps and all shop equipment required to sustain fleet.

- Responsible for auditing maintenance facilities for compliance to Messer and regulatory standards. Ensure our engineering modification of change process is followed along with our safe work practices.

- Oversees and participates in the mechanic hiring process to include onboarding and training. Ensures new hires have technical expertise, work ethic, interpersonal skills and safety culture aligned to Messer.

- Manages fleet resources for area (equipment, mechanics, parts) to flex and backfill across locations as required to ensure seamless transport operations and deliveries to customer sites.

- Manages external repairs at vendor sites approving what we outsource, evaluating quotes for root cause of failure matches to repairs and costs. Assists locations with parts management partnering with procurement to get best pricing, services, and lead times.

- Partner with area driver trainers to coach drivers and ensure proper care and operations of fleet equipment to increase the longevity and reliability of our assets.

- Provide technical information and establish Messer policy wherever it needs to be implemented.

- Establish and align best maintenance practices and fleet processes across area.

- Create an accident-free environment and always encourage safe working procedures.

- Initiate and carry out all company operational and transport directives.

- Assist with the day-to-day service issues, establish best problem-solving solution practices.

Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree OR HSD with minimum 10 years experience in commercial fleet maintenance
  • Minimum 5 years maintenance or operations management required.
  • Minimum 5 years functional experience with commercial vehicles required.



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in a business discipline
  • Experience with cryogenic equipment preferred.
