This Sterile Processing Technician III - Team Lead functions as a primary lead and working resource for the Sterile Processing Department supporting the Operating Room. Responsibilities are focused on the technical aspects of cleaning, disinfecting, inspecting, sterilizing and putting together functional instruments and equipment for surgical services. Other responsibilities are disinfecting, cleaning and reassembling equipment i.e. ventilators and other patient care equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
- Certification from Nat'l Institute for Certification of Healthcare Sterile Processing & Distribution
- Base Certification requirement: CRCST from Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or CSPDT from The Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
- Advanced Requirement: CIS from HSPA from Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or CSIS from The Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
- Must maintain certification by completing CEU's and renewing certifications as a condition of employment.
- Several years recent experience in a similar setting Central Processing Unit is required.
- Knowledge of basic and complex surgical instrumentation. Knowledge of disinfection principles and sterilization techniques. Knowledge of AAMI (American Association of Medical Instrumentation) recommended practices. Must have the ability and fine motor dexterity to operate equipment, computers, keyboard, and mouse. Proficient in using standard business software including email and common word processing applications. Demonstrate error-free prose that conveys meaning to readers with clarity and fluency. Write text that effectively communicates ideas, facts, and/or information to an audience appropriate for the assignment. Apply the conventions of standard written English. Must be able to work with adaptability, flexibility & maintain composure during stressful and/or adverse conditions. Knowledge of AORN (Association of Operating Room Nurses) Recommended practices on: Care of instruments scopes & powered surgical instruments. Cleaning and processing of instruments. Selection & use of packaging materials. Traffic patterns in the surgical suites. Thorough knowledge of the Central Processing Unit computer environment including hardware, operating system, software and application software.

- Five (5) years recent experience in a similar setting Central Processing Unit is highly preferred.

Department Overview
Central Processing is a Department within Perioperative Services that supports 40 plus operating rooms by cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing surgical instrumentation, flexible scopes and case cart assembly. The Central Processing Department supports Patient Care Services. Ambulatory Services and the Primary Care Network within the Health System by cleaning and disinfecting reusable equipment; and the cleaning, disinfecting and sterilization of surgical instrumentation used by these services. Central Processing cleans and restocks all emergency crash carts, PAPR supply carts, first responder bags, airway boxes and ICU transport bags. Central Processing also manages fiscal. materiel, and human resources to support the planning and coordination of surgical care and other patient care in the hospital and clinics.
