Responsibilities & Expectations:

We are looking for a Variable Frequency Field Technician who has experience in commissioning, repairing, and maintaining VFDs. The ideal will have a strong understanding of electrical circuits and be able to troubleshoot VFDs quickly and efficiently.

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients, vendors, and employees
  • Ensure compliance with industry, company, and health and safety codes, standards, and practices
  • Understand VFD technology and how to apply it to various applications for proper electric motor operation
  • Identify customer's needs for the application of VFDs and advise on best practices
  • Perform commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, repair, and replacement of VFDs in the field
  • Educate and train fellow team members and customers on VFDs
  • Replace obsolete VFDs manufactured by various Original Equipment Manufacturers with modern equipment
  • Calibrate analog 4-20mA and 0-10V setups to integrate the newly installed devices with customer control schemes
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance activities on VFDs on a regular basis
  • Complete work orders in a timely manner
  • Work in collaboration with various levels of skill and management within IPS and customer organizations
  • Provide an Unmatched Customer Experience through excellent customer service and customer satisfaction

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • 2+ years of experience working in Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) field service
  • Excellent troubleshooting, diagnostic, and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of Variable Frequency Drive technology
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles
  • Ability to read, interpret, and draw electrical schematics
  • Knowledge and experience in calibrating equipment
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Good interpersonal and time management skills
  • Experience working with high-voltage devices is a plus
  • Understanding of control wiring schemes, motor controls, and PLCs is a plus
  • Understanding various communication protocols, such as Ethernet I/P, Modbus,DeviceNet, etc., is a plus
