General Dynamics Land Systems is a global leader in the design, development, production, support and sustainment of tracked and wheeled military equipment, specifically the Abrams Main Battle Tank and the Stryker Family of Wheeled Combat Vehicles. In this position you will be responsible for supporting all production processes and creating new production processes. CLASS NO. 2110B DATE: 4-02-84 TITLE: ENGINEER - TOOL ENGINEERING B LABOR GRADE: 12 Determine the complete tooling required to produce a particular part, or parts to specifications. Given a blueprint of the part, and the engineering release, decide what operations must be performed and in what sequence and write an operation sheet or lineup of the operations, a copy of which is provided to production, time study, and inspection, and tooltrouble people. Specify for each operation the number and kind of each machine tool and the tools used in it, and the fixtures and gauges. Determine the proper feeds and speeds for each machine and the number of pieces per hour that can be produced. Request a designer to design special tools, if they are needed, and work with the plant engineering people on matters of machine and conveyor arrangements and plant facilities. Provide for engineering changes released after parts are in production in the same manner as for new parts. Estimate costs and orders for tools and obtain competitive prices from vendors. Provide Time Study with information needed for labor costs estimates and provide planning with information regarding starting dates and changeover dates and production capacity. Investigate production suggestions and complaints and work with tooltrouble people and others in maintaining production. Keep informed on the latest methods of manufacturing and improved machinery design. The term ''tools" includes patterns, dies, jigs, fixtures, machine tools or special equipment.
