POSITION TITLE

Laboratory Technician, Chemical Process Technologies Group

POSITION OVERVIEW

This position is in the Milliken Chemical Division's Process Technologies Group. Our Group provides technical support for development and scale up of new products and support for existing chemical processes. The position is located at our headquarters in Spartanburg, SC and reports to a Ph.D. Chemical Process Scientist. Typical hours are Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm with some flex time and occasional travel.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build, modify, and operate laboratory equipment for use in scientific and process chemistry-related work

  • Perform analyses and develop new analytical methods & calibration curves using various instrumentation

  • Support chemical plant process optimization and science-based laboratory experiments

  • Document experimental procedures, results, observations, and reports

  • Maintain clean and organized laboratory work environments including chemical inventory

  • Participate fully in the safety process

  • Work efficiently with supervisor and team members to achieve project targets and deadlines

  • Other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED

  • Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science or a related technical field

  • 3+ Years of industrial experience ideal

  • Experience working in a chemical laboratory, safely handling and mixing chemicals, documenting experiments, chemical synthesis, and operating scientific equipment

  • Strong work ethic, professionalism, attention to detail, and ability to follow written procedures such as SOPs

  • Ability to work independently, with supervisor, and within team environments

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, punctual meeting attendance, and effective presentation skills

  • Outstanding Excel spreadsheet skills using formulae and ability to learn new technical software

The successful candidate will have strengths in the following:

  • Experience in chemical process scaleup, Chemical Development, kinetics, and strong in Analytical Chemistry

  • Chemical Process Analytical Technology (PAT) experience, for example, in-line real time Raman spectroscopy

  • Thermal Hazard Evaluation skills and running calorimetry experiments to support our safety program
