Description

ACS Productions, an award-winning studio at the American Chemical Society, seeks an experienced manager of video production to help lead our dynamic, high-achieving team. As the manager, you will be responsible for a production team that creates innovative video projects to advance the ACS vision and brand strategy. Reporting to the Executive Producer, you will manage multiple direct reports and oversee the day-to-day operations of video production, coordinating production schedules with the Project Manager and delivering products on schedule. The successful candidate must excel at building collaborative relationships with stakeholders across the organization and developing video projects that meet their needs and align with ACS strategic goals. We're looking for a leader who motivates team members with positive energy and flexes to adapt to different work styles. This is a hybrid position, based in Washington, DC. Some travel may be required, potentially two or more trips per year.

The ACS Productions team is part of the Communications unit in the Division of Communications and Marketing. The Communications unit provides news about ACS and communicates the vital role of chemical professionals and the chemical sciences in solving critical global challenges and improving everyday life. The team tells stories of chemists and chemistry through press releases, videos, podcasts, live virtual events and social media posts that educate and entertain our audiences. The ACS Productions portfolio includes the YouTube series Reactions and Headline Science, the Tiny Matters podcast, live virtual events and the ACS Webinars series. In addition, we support the general production needs of ACS offices, divisions and committees.

Here's what you'll be doing:



  • Lead and supervise a team of video production professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to maximize individual and team performance.
  • Oversee all aspects of video production, from pre-production planning and script development to filming, editing, and post-production. Ensure quality, consistency, and adherence to brand standards in videos.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including marketing teams, to understand project requirements and develop production plans that meet strategic objectives. Create video plans that address the stakeholder's goals.
  • Manage the production schedule, assigning resources, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget, in coordination with the Project Manager and Executive Producer. Lead regular status update and production planning meetings.
  • Review and approve production budgets, tracking expenses and managing costs to ensure efficient resource allocation and financial accountability. Make recommendations to the Executive Producer for the annual operating and capital budgets for video.
  • Represent ACS at meetings, events, and industry conferences, showcasing the organization's production capabilities and fostering relationships with internal and external partners as needed.
  • Select and track metrics for video and strategy performance. Stay informed about emerging trends, technologies, and innovations in video production and multimedia content creation, and proactively identify opportunities to enhance ACS's production capabilities and creative output.
  • Identify, select, engage, and manage contractors at all stages of the video production process.
  • Hire and train team members and help to establish team norms and foster a healthy, collaborative, and inclusive team culture.
  • Assist the Executive Producer in creating cohesive multimedia campaigns and ensuring that creative elements align with the Division's overall strategy and the Society's vision.


    Desired Skills and Experience:



    • 10+ years of experience working on a high-performing video production team. Experience in science communication is preferred.
    • Previous experience in a supervisory or managerial role, with demonstrated success in leading and developing teams, managing projects and budgets, and achieving organizational goals.
    • Experience providing supervision, training and coaching to subordinate staff members
    • Proficiency with video production tools and software, including camera equipment, production software (particularly the Adobe Creative Suite), and other multimedia production tools.
    • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Experience with Asana or the ability to learn quickly is required.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, build relationships with stakeholders, and influence decision-making.
    • Strategic thinker with a creative mindset, able to translate organizational goals and objectives into compelling video content and production strategies.


    This role is based in our Washington, D.C. office. A reasonable rate of compensation for this position is between $101,000 - $137,000 per year.
