The Research Development Team within Accounting Services is an innovative team dedicated to completing strategic initiatives for research administration and is seeking an initiative-driven individual to lead a highly collaborative team. As the Research Development Assistant Financial Manager, you will develop and lead team members, oversee large-scale projects, and promote a culture of creativity and innovation.

Major/Essential Functions


  1. Assist AMD in strategic planning for Research Accounting in service to the goals & objectives of Accounting Services (AS) and the University. Contribute to developing & tracking key performance indicators for Research performance evaluation, integrating performance metrics into AS operations and for campus use.
  2. Supervise & oversee assigned daily operations of sponsored projects post-award management, including staff hiring & training, workload management, performance reviews, and fostering a culture of sustainable excellence.
  3. Assist with collaboration efforts between institutional constituents (primarily principal investigators and college/department staff) and/or other research institutions in order to gain efficiencies, enhance information systems, provide training and education regarding sponsored project administration and to establish best practices for managing sponsored projects.
  4. Promote institutional compliance with laws, policies, and regulations that govern sponsored project activities by assisting the AMD in policy development, regulation interpretation, and risk assessment.
  5. As assigned, oversee assigned compliance reviews, co-lead compliance committees, provide input on award T&Cs when needed and assist with internal and external audits.
  6. Assist in developing and delivering internal and campus-wide training programs for principal investigators, research faculty, department grant administrators and AS Research staff.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a job related field plus three years' experience related to the assigned area; OR a combination or education and/or related experience equal to seven years.

Preferred Qualifications


  1. Business-related degree, CPA or candidate, CRA/CFRA/CPRA or candidate.
  2. Preferred knowledge or skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel training or experience; Ability to identify problems, evaluate options and implement solutions; Ability to communicate effectively in writing for the needs of the audience; Experience in research administration (including Federal regulations and institutional policy); Experience working in TTU specific systems (Banner, FiTS, TechBuy, BRS, Cognos, etc.); Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
