Summary

The Biomedical Technician/Perioperative Specialist is responsible for inventory management, medical device support, and coordination of repair and preventive maintenance for medical devices in the OR/Perioperative environment. The Perioperative Specialist focuses on equipment like surgical scopes, cameras, sterilizers, washers, anesthesia machines, OR tables, ESUs, surgical microscopes, lasers, and other assigned equipment used in the Perioperative environment.

Responsibilities

  • As required by perioperative department, conduct pre-case anesthesia rounds to verify device set-up and functionality.
  • Maintain licensures and certifications of Operating Room owned specialty radiology equipment.
  • Assist in medical device procurement process, acting as an advisor in the capital planning decision process, helping leaders make decisions on what devices should be replaced and when. Including product education, evaluation, and coordination of vendor training
  • Complete daily maintenance actions on tasked equipment in a timely manner, including management of vendor service
  • Maintain labeling and cataloging of perioperative equipment for collaboration with hospital's inventory tracking system (i.e., Optime, EPIC, etc.) for proper tracking/documentation.
  • Liaise with TRIMEDX strategic advisor and equipment vendors to ensure medical device equipment software update opportunities are tracked and planned with clinical leadership
  • Work collaboratively with department staff to ensure appropriate/efficient recovery/replacement of equipment.
  • Demonstrate technical expertise with the ability to troubleshoot malfunctions and to implement the steps needed to resolve the issue.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and adheres to principles of sterile technique applicable to the surgical setting when necessary.
  • Participate in a fair and equitable call schedule as needed.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to core values & standard in performance of duties
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Technical Service - 40%

  • Conduct performance assurance (PA) inspections, scheduled maintenance, unscheduled maintenance, and operation verification procedures (OVP) on complex medical equipment and systems.
  • Inform supervisors of the status of repairs, scheduled inspections, unusual equipment situations, and any customer concerns.
  • Work with, direct, and document the activities of subcontractors, vendors, and outside service technicians to ensure proper service delivery.
  • Maintain field related expertise through ongoing training and education

Regulatory Compliance - 25%

  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the equipment database to include the inventory, performance assurance (PA) schedules, nomenclature, and service history.
  • Adhere to the Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP), including all regulatory agency compliances and other applicable policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all service and documentation is complete, timely, and accurate

Account Relationship Management - 25%

  • Build and maintain customer relationships.
  • Discuss equipment status and functionality with customers.
  • Adhere to the Mission, Vision, and Values of the organization(s) served.
  • Serve as an ambassador for TRIMEDX by integrating the core values into job performance.

Inventory - 10%

  • Perform periodic inspections of current inventory status and maintain common failure parts inventory to ensure equipment uptime
  • Verify the completion of security analysis for new customer equipment.
  • Perform Incoming Inspections (II) to maintain a complete and accurate inventory of medical devices, including trial and evaluation, rental, and loaner equipment in addition to permanently assigned equipment inventory.
  • Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the equipment database to include inventory, performance assurance (PA) schedules, nomenclature, and service history.
  • Make recommendations regarding inventory.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with biomedical equipment in a clinical engineering environment
  • Demonstrates effective, positive interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Exceptional focus on delivering customer service
  • Ability to effectively work with staff in a fully operational, fast-paced clinical environment
  • Ability to plan and communicate technical information processes to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Flexible in dealing with a variety of dynamic situations
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Occasionally required to bend, crouch, climb, balance, or otherwise maneuver body to perform equipment and/or environment of care inspections
  • Frequently required to grab, grasp, or otherwise handle tools to service medical devices and/or mentor technicians
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentational communication skills
  • Valid driver's license required; variable travel requirements depending on primary site that may require use of personal vehicle

Education and Qualifications

  • Associates degree in a technical/electronics field or equivalent experience, including military training required
  • Technical Certification (CBET) strongly preferred
