About the Job

This is a 2-year qualitative study about the lived experiences of Black youth to identify the roles of intersecting structural and cultural factors that may increase vulnerability or buffer against suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STBs). We will collect data through in-depth semi-structured interviews from three subgroups of Black adolescents aged 13-18 years (Black/AA, Black Latine and Somali). We are seeking a casual/temp worker to join our interdisciplinary team to work on the following tasks for at least 1.5 years. The work schedule is flexible, and some tasks can be completed remotely/virtually. We strongly encourage applicants from individuals who have lived experience related to Black Somali communities, and proficiency in Somali is considered a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

Recruiting participants (60%)

  • Outreach and co-ordination with the youth advisory board CBOs and mosques.
  • Recruiting, screening and scheduling participants for interviews.

Data collection and dissemination of findings (40%)

  • Conducting interviews
  • Data entry into Redcap/ Google Survey forms
  • Prepare project findings for dissemination to community organizations and community members and scientific audiences (abstracts, presentations, manuscripts and infographics).
Qualifications

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials.

Required Qualifications/ Skills:

  • Bachelors' degree in the health sciences (e.g., nursing, social work, medicine) OR at least 5 years of community-based work in a health center serving marginalized populations and working with adolescents.
  • At least 2 years working with minoritized communities and adolescents or emerging adults

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working with adolescents or young adults of diverse ethnoracial backgrounds who have experienced mental health concerns.
  • Data entry into Redcap/ Google survey forms.
  • Interviewing Somali adolescents.
  • Collecting, documenting and cleaning qualitative data.
  • Community research experience.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $10 - $50; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
