Job Description:
- Defense Systems is looking for a SCA Aircraft Mechanic Helper to support a maintenance program with in Lake Charles, LA.
- The Navy E-6 is an airborne command post and communications relay based on the Boeing 707 platform The aircraft are utilized primarily for long-range patrols along the entire U.S. border, and in source and transit zone countries. This platform, now modified to the E-6B standard, conveys instructions from the National Command Authority to fleet ballistic missile submarines, a mission known as TACAMO ("Take Charge And Move Out").
Role & Responsibilities:
- Assisting Aircraft Mechanic in performing any combination of the following duties:
- Servicing, repairing and overhauling aircraft and aircraft engines.
- Adjusts and replaces parts such as control cables, fuel tanks, spark plugs, tires, batteries and filters.
- Using mechanic's tools, removes inspection plates, cowling, engine covers, floor boards and related items to provide access for inspection and repair, and replaces items when work is completed.
- Towing and jacking aircraft, and disconnects instruments, ignition systems, and fuel and oil lines.
- Dismantling, repairing, overhauling or replacing parts and assemblies such as engines, plumbing and hydraulic systems, and aircraft structural sections, performs routine duties such as furnishing materials, tools and supplies to mechanic.
- Lifting and holding materials in place during operation.
- Cleaning work areas and machines, tools and equipment.
- Cleans aircraft, interior and exterior parts and assemblies with solvents or other cleaning solutions.
- Jacking and towing aircraft.
- Inflates tires, fills gasoline tanks and oil reservoirs, and greases aircraft, using grease gun.
- May assist flight line mechanic, worker, or servicer in servicing and repairing aircraft prior to flight.
Additional duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Adjusts, repairs, or replaces electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories.
- Applies basic knowledge of electrical theory.
- Use a variety of manual hand tools such as crimpers, strippers, wire cutters, heat shrink gun, etc.
- Be able to assemble, modify, and install wire bundles, conductors and other electrical components.
- Maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures, structural components of complex to extreme difficulty.
- Applies a thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification.
- Applies a broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair.
- Applies detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc. is required.
Basic Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) and a minimum 10 years relevant experience.
- Able to perform work in an approved environment during specified work hours.
- Able to change physical locations based upon need (including physical ability to travel).
- Ability to be subject to a variety of physical conditions.
- Able to wear respirator or other safety gear.
- Ability to be subject to areas which could cause various phobias due to height or closed space.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A&P License.
- Able to obtain/maintain a Top Secret DoD clearance.
- Experience performing complex modifications.
