Payrate: $ 26.00 w2

Shift hours: M-F7:30-3:30

Job Description:

  • 1. Serves as the Medical Records Director.
  • Provide professional direction to the overall Health Information Services program for 24/7 residential Madden Mental Health Center.
  • Directs the Health Information function of the Hospital by organizing, planning, controlling, budgeting, executing, and evaluating the operation of the Unit including preparation and maintenance of medical, clinical, and statistical records, reports, and computer databases.
  • Confirms quality research for budgetary planning and to maximize reimbursement to the general revenue fund.
  • Prepares and distributes reports by the standard of accrediting and regulatory agencies.
  • Monitors compliance with all applicable statutes, rules, regulations, and standards of regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies, including but not limited to Client/DMH, the Confidentiality Act, the Joint Commission, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA).
  • Responds to correspondence and inquiries regarding present and past patients.


2. Serves as a working supervisor:

  • Assigns and reviews work.
  • Provides guidance and training to assigned staff, and counsels staff regarding work performance.
  • Reassigns staff to meet day-to-day operating needs.
  • Establishes annual goals and objectives.
  • Approves time off.
  • Prepares and signs performance evaluations.
  • Reviews case records to verify court documents have been prepared, and signed and supporting documentation is included.
  • Collaborates with clinical staff regarding the court process to verify compliance with applicable statutes, rules, regulations, and standards.
  • Directs maintenance of court orders within the Hospital's data system
  • Serves as the HIPPA Program Coordinator and Privacy Officer.
  • Develop and prepare policies and procedures for Hospital Leadership approval and implementation to verify HIPPA compliance.
  • Interprets Federal, State, and Department guidelines for the implementation and intent of the program.
  • Advocates and protects the privacy of recipients and staff.
  • Makes final decisions on disputes relative to HIPPA.
  • Monitors the Hospital Records Retention process.
  • Participates in a variety of local and State-wide committees including the Hospital Forum and State-wide committees including the Hospital Forum
  • Attends and participates in all mandatory training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to four years of college and certification by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
  • Requires one year of professional experience in a health information records facility.
  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to four years of high school, completion of an approved medical records training program plus certification by the American Health Information
  • Management Association as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
  • Requires five years of progressively responsible experience as an RHIT in the management of a medical records program.
