Who we are looking for: We are currently looking for a Manufacturing Supervisor on 2nd Shift to be based out of our New Bedford, MA facility. Reporting to the Value Stream Manager, this person will be responsible for supervising and leading the machine operating staff with an emphasis on teamwork, continuous improvement, and have full ownership for safety, quality, delivery, and productivity performance. 2nd shift hours are 4:00pm - 12:00am. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent and a minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in manufacturing operations. Experience in manufacturing of wire and cable is a plus. Experience in lean manufacturing or a business system-based company is a requirement. What you'll do:
- Lead the Atkore Business System and Lean Daily Management within their teams and utilize Lean tools for improvement projects focused on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
- Drive Atkore's Lean Excellence strategy. Operational leadership, resulting in successful safe work environment, exceptional quality performance, lean implementation, productivity gains, a reduction in operating costs, inventories, and lead times.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental requirements.
- Ensure compliance of all procedures and standard work by all team members.
- Control and optimization of labor, materials, and machine utilization to achieve production goals and meet the production scheduling plan.
- Instill and maintain a positive "can-do" team atmosphere within the value stream by holding regular team meetings, assigning tasks to team members, empowering team member decision-making, and coordinating support services.
- Develop plans and implement strategies to improve the engagement, alignment, and performance of the team members within area of responsibility.
- Manage vacation schedules and overtime.
- Develop and coach team members of your team with necessary skills to identify problems and challenges, perform root cause analyses and implement countermeasures and solutions, as necessary.
- Implement cross training activities to ensure proper function of the work cells and maximize team's potential.
- Spend most of your time on the production floor leading, supporting and coaching your team members.

What you'll bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Management or equivalent is required.
- Five to ten years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Wire & Cable manufacturing experience is desirable especially with plastics extrusion, cabling and armoring.
- Lean manufacturing background and the passion to grow your lean experience. Proven track record of Lean accomplishments as well as cost out and process improvements.
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems using Lean Manufacturing tools.
- Must have schedule flexibility and be willing to work additional hours based on business needs.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach other supervisors and off-shift team leaders.
- Experience in a unionized environment is desirable.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Word and Excel).
- Experience with JD Edwards, SAP or any other ERP system for inventory management is required.
Within 3 months, you'll:
- Complete your Atkore immersion program.
- Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore's strategy.
- Understand your team's strengths and opportunities.
- Gain an understanding of the products and processes.
- Gain an understanding of the training materials and procedures your team owns.
- Update daily production reports and KPI boards.
Within 6 months, you'll:
- Partner with Safety, Quality, and HR to investigate and provide corrective actions for any on-the-job injuries, customer complaints, and labor relations issues.
- Identify ways to strengthen the team's commitment to Atkore's core values of Accountability, Teamwork, Integrity, Respect and Excellence.
- Take full ownership of the shift's Lean Daily Management, including Tier 1 Gemba, and KPI boards.
- Fully understand how you and your team impact Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
Within 12 months, you'll:
- Be managing an efficient team that meets or exceeds performance goals for Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
- Create and update reports, training materials and procedures, as necessary.
- Drive Lean Transformation strategy for your shift. Drive and implement projects to improve SQDC.
- Have meaningful conversations with your direct reports to improve their engagement, alignment, and performance.
