Responsibilities and Expectations:

Integrated Power Services (IPS) is seeking an Electrical/Repair Engineer with expertise in transformers to join our Denver Service Center to provide support to our U.S. Transformer Center of Excellence. This position requires a strong aptitude for transformer construction, design, and functionality as well as experience in both shop repairs/remanufacture and field service repairs/troubleshooting. A successful candidate for this position will provide technical support & consultation to IPS's Sales Team and their end user customers. As a Transformer Electrical/Repair Engineer for IPS, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing an Unmatched Customer Experience for internal & external customers by providing proactive communication to troubleshoot transformer issues and make repair recommendations.
  • Ensuring that repair/remanufacture/field service solutions meet customer expectations and applicable industry standards.
  • Performing failure analysis on various types of transformers including, but not limited to oil filled transformers (substation, auxiliary, generator step up, electric arc furnace, voltage regulating, voltage rectifying) and dry type (traditional varnished and cast coil).
  • Processing customer RFP's/RFQ's.
  • Developing repair/remanufacture work scopes and cost estimations for all transformer work both in shop and field service.
  • Reverse engineering transformer mechanical and electrical designs.
  • Leading R&D exercises to develop novel engineered solutions.
  • Drafting & reviewing project status updates, final repair or project reports, and factory certified test reports.
  • Providing technical sales support including customer site visits and leading lunch/learns.
  • Partnering with the Management Team to continue IPS's efforts to provide an Unmatched Employee Experience through promoting positive work culture, dedication to continuous improvement, and employee development.
  • Developing & implementing a new learning development program for existing transformer employees/future apprentices as well as providing classroom & hands on training for transformer technicians.
  • Partnering with Denver and Regional/Functional Teams to continue implementation of safety, quality, productivity improvement actions through progression of IPS's CIPS Phased Program.
  • Partner with team to drive revision enhancements of mechanical/electrical transformer repair work instructions and ultimately roll out an IPS Global Transformer Repair and Remanufacture Specification.
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with IPS, industry, and regulatory operating policies/procedures.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Minimum qualification: B.S. or M.S. Mechanical /Electrical Engineering Degree
  • Preferred qualification: 20+ years' experience with transformer design, rewind, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting
  • Ability to analyze transformer factory test reports and provide critiques.
  • Ability to perform various calculations involving transformer turns, iron/ copper-loss, energization inrush current and similar transformer components.
  • Passion for critical thinking and creatively solving problems.
  • Strong hands-on experience in fabrication, machining, manufacturing, machine repair or similar
  • Experience with the design, manufacturing, application, repair, testing, maintenance, IIOT and diagnostics, of transformers
  • Ability to perform advanced diagnostic assessments to troubleshoot transformer winding, core, or structure.
  • Ability to perform root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and develop technical solutions to OEM and Aftermarket design related problems.
  • Provide technical phone support for service centers and field service personnel.
  • Write failure reports with critical technical analysis.
  • Provide technical support to the sales team, participate in customer visits, customer, and sales training.
  • Ability to relate well with others in a positive, professional, and knowledgeable manner.
  • Strong proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to develop component part drawings in AutoCAD, Solid Works or similar.
  • Ability to prioritize and maintain a high degree of organization.
  • Excellent time management
  • Ability to communicate technical data in a clear and concise manner.

Pay Rate Details: $130,000 - $175,000 per year
