Data Scientist Market Surveillance data science team Location preference: Local to DC is preferred but remote candidates will be accepted Strong academic background & good foundational data science skills - Foundational data science skills means the ability to take complex problem and formulating to ML or other framework - PhD strongly preferred but not required - 3-4 years of professional experience post academic (research experience does not count) Experience with time series data, strong ML backbone and signal processing techniques - Candidates who work hands on and deliver code - Signal processing experience is key Experience developing and delivering data visualization to provide insights and tell a story to stakeholders to enable them to make informed decisions - Plot with Python in a way that is interactive to tell a story to the business NOT using Tableau or BI tools - looking for Python based experience - Plotly is tool they use Experience working with big data and massive datasets - FINRA's datasets are billions of records large so looking for candidates who have experience parsing through massive datasets (ideally hundreds of millions of records large) - please include the largest dataset the candidate has worked with Strong communication - able to articulate data science concepts to technical and nontechnical stakeholders (example: explain signal processing to someone who has never heard of it before) Tech Stack: - AWS - core AWS services are ideal - most work will be in Sagemaker or Domino - Must have experience with time series data - all data you work with in this role will be time series - Signal processing with time series data - Using Python to create training pipelines and models - writing code for engineers to put into production (not coding applications) - Distributed computing capabilities (Spark) - Data viz with Python plotting to tell a story with data (Plotly) Nice to have skills: - PhD is preferred - FinTech / trading experience is preferred What this team does: Surveilling market data to ensure fair trading - ensuring investor protection and market integrity Working with massive data sets - 400B data points per day - like finding a needle in a forest Your goal will be to find manipulative behavior within trading data There are problems out there that we don't know exist on the market - can you help come up with new ideas to find them? There is new types of manipulative behavior uncovered all of the time. Secondary Skills - Nice to Haves * financial markets *Description:* Responsibilities: - Apply and develop signal processing techniques to analyze time-series data and extract meaningful features from complex datasets. Utilize expertise in signal processing fundamentals, including time-series analysis, filtering, transforms, and other relevant techniques essential for our work in regulatory surveillance. - Develop, apply, and when necessary, customize advanced machine learning and statistical models for large and complex datasets to identify patterns and detect anomalies. This requires a strong foundation in modeling principles and the ability to develop custom algorithms when needed, while also leveraging and adapting existing Python libraries like Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, and Keras for efficient implementation. - Work with structured and unstructured data from multiple sources to build predictive models using techniques like classification, regression, clustering, time series analysis etc. - Process and analyze streaming/batch data using Spark and related big data technologies. - Design, build and optimize end-to-end model development pipelines including data ingestion, feature engineering, model training/tuning, evaluation and deployment. - Collaborate closely with other data scientists, engineers and product teams on ongoing model monitoring, debugging and retraining. Requirements: - MS/PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or related quantitative field. - 3+ years of hands on experience in machine learning, data mining and predictive modeling. - Expertise in Python and proficiency in SQL. - Strong knowledge of statistics, linear algebra and related math concepts. - Expertise in signal processing techniques like time-series analysis, filtering, transforms etc. - Experience working with Spark, Hadoop and other big data technologies. - Experience designing efficient data structures and algorithms. - Experience with MLOps tools and practices like model versioning, monitoring, A/B testing etc. - Excellent communication and collaboration skills to partner with engineering and product teams. *Skills:* Python, Data science, Machine learning, MLOps, distributed computing, time series data, sagemaker, Aws, big data, financial markets *Top Skills Details:* Python, Data science, Machine learning, MLOps, distributed computing, time series data, sagemaker, Aws, big data *Additional Skills & Qualifications:* Nice to have skills: - Not necessary to have experience in securities industry or finance (but would be preferred) - PhD (strongly preferred) *Experience Level:* Intermediate Level *We reserve the right to pay above or below the posted wage based on factors unrelated to sex, race, or any other protected* *classification.
