This job provides high quality, advanced life support in a pre-hospital setting. Responsible for
providing care consistent with the general standard of care according to treatment protocols, augmenting emergency department staff at various hospitals in the emergency care of the sick and injured and providing assessments and treatment to patients of all ages in an innumerable variety of environmentally uncontrolled settings.

Education

Required - High school diploma or equivalent

Graduation from an approved EMT/Paramedic Program

Work Experience

Preferred - Two years of experience as a Registered EMT/Paramedic, Two years of experience driving emergency vehicles, Completion of a PHTLS Course (Pre Hospital Trauma Life Support).

Certifications

Required - Licensed in the state of practice as an EMT/Paramedic, Registered with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians as an EMT/Paramedic, Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.

Current Driver's License Class D in state of practice, Completion of Defensive Driving Course within 30 days of hire, and Completion of Haz-Mat Awareness Training.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to and experience working with and maintaining confidential information.

  • Ability to and experience working in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to adapt to change in a positive manner.

Job Duties

  • Provides care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned areas.

  • Provides customer service to patients, families and staff.

  • Participates in activities for professional development, maintains required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training and credentials and assumes responsibility for maintaining knowledge of departmental policies/procedures.

  • Demonstrates responsibility for the proper safekeeping and use of the advanced life support items used along with supervising other emergency personnel who may be present at the scene providing patient care.

  • Performs intake of medical history, performs physical exams, controls bleeding, provides airway control, restores and maintains circulation.

  • Consistently provides acutely correct and accurate documentation of patient care delivered to ensure accurate processing of billing to remain in compliance of departmental guidelines.

  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.

  • Other related duties as required.
