Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking a qualified Spectroscopy Scientist to support ongoing and new missions for the Nuclear Nonproliferation Division. The position will perform research and development in concepts relevant to current and next generation proliferant material technologies and their applications to nuclear nonproliferation. The selected candidate should have a solid understanding of fundamentals in one or more of the following subjects: physics, chemistry, or an engineering equivalent, computer science, artificial intelligence/ machine learning, spectroscopy, materials characterization, and nuclear processes. In addition, a background in materials characterization using laser spectroscopy (e.g., LIBS, XRF), hyperspectral imaging, experience with data analysis methods such as chemometrics or data reduction and optimization, experience with stakeholders, and experience with the DOE National Laboratory complex are highly desirable. The selected candidate must have the ability to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to conduct the assigned technical work. Project coordination and demonstrated leadership experience are needed to ensure project completion. Ability to interpret technical data and assist in the writing of technical reports and peer reviewed publications is required. This position is focused on leading, advancing, developing, and applying science, technology, engineering, information technology, and research and development, to anticipate, innovate, and deliver solutions to Laboratory missions. It involves discovery, design, and development of innovative solutions which advance the state of the art. This role requires a university degree and equivalent work experience that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts. Researches, designs, develops, analyzes, and implements technical projects and systems. Utilizes engineering standards and techniques to improve quality of products and/or procedures. |
