Tractor Trailer Mechanics

J.B. Hunt is hiring experienced diesel mechanics to join our Joliet team!

Under general supervision, these team members are responsible for performing complex maintenance, service and repair of J.B. Hunt trailers, containers, chassis and power equipment. Technicians must be able to troubleshoot, diagnose and complete all fleet maintenance processes while checking that units meet J.B. Hunt specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform complex diagnostics, troubleshooting and preventive maintenance tasks including, but not limited to, tire replacements/flat repairs, brake repairs, electrical diagnostics, and basic structural repairs on tractor and trailer equipment
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair ABS system and specialized equipment including refrigerated units, lift gates, and frame alignment
• Follow all safety requirements while at J.B. Hunt or customer locations or rail yard.
• Accurately complete work orders and other written materials according to established procedures.
• Properly document damage to company equipment to estimate cost of repairs.
• Demonstrate proficient use of a cutting torch and welding equipment to perform mid-level repairs on chassis, frames and other equipment.
• Perform annual AA Trailer and FHWA Brake Inspections sign off.

Qualifications:

• 18 years of age for equipment up to 10,000 lbs or 21 years of age for equipment over 10,000 lbs with one ore more years of experience in semi-tractor or semi-trailer maintenance and repair, or equivalent combination of education and experience, or military equivalent AND demonstration of the following skills and abilities through education, certifications, military, or other experiences
• Able to supply your own basic tools or purchase through our toolbox purchase program
• Possess a clean motor vehicle record per J.B. Hunt guidelines
• Willingness to work outdoors in the elements
• Able to work across multiple shifts, including nights and/or weekends, if needed
• DOT certified in FHWA inspections and air brakes

Preferred Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent with at least one year of experience in semi-tractor or semi-trailer maintenance and repair, or equivalent combination of education and experience, or military equivalent
• Welding certification
• Forklift certification and experience
• EPA section 608 certification and Refrigeration License
