DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Commodity Specialist for the Department of General Services (DGS), you will administer procurement activities, develop and implement sourcing strategies, and manage contracts and the supply base for a variety of assigned commodities for the information technology (IT) team. Work involves collecting, analyzing, and evaluating data to develop a comprehensive understanding of market dynamics and agency needs, in addition to improving supplier performance and streamlining costs. You will also assist with contract negotiations, preparation and maintenance of supplier contracts, and providing input for specialized purchases.
Excellent interpersonal skills are crucial, as this position relies heavily on developing and maintaining working relationships with key state agency personnel in order to foster a team approach to contract administration. Work is performed with considerable independence and is reviewed for adherence to established standards and results obtained. - Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 4 days per week, following the initial period of in-person training. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of experience as a Purchasing Agent (commonwealth title); or
- One year of experience as a Purchasing Agent Supervisor or Procurement Specialist 1 (commonwealth title); or
- Five years of strategic procurement experience, which includes researching and evaluating commodities and suppliers; or
- One year of strategic procurement experience and a bachelor's degree; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
