DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a member of our team, you will assist in our mission to serve the public and aid them in applying for and receiving birth and death certificates maintained in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Your duties will involve screening applicants for valid identification and eligibility, evaluating applications received in person and by mail, and registering payment. You will type information from applications into the vital statistics system, review and compare information, and determine eligibility. You will also print certificates as requested and prepare production reports. In this role, you will utilize various computer applications and search methods for locating birth and death records. In addition, you will employ your excellent communication and problem-solving skills to assist customers, de-escalate situations when a consumer becomes impatient or upset, and offer recommendations to enhance operational procedures.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment (37.5 hours per week)
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Clerical Assistant 2 (commonwealth title); or
  • One year of moderately complex clerical experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
