Pay information



  • Pay Level: 025
  • FLSA Category: Exempt - Salaried
  • Individual pay will be based on skills, experience, qualifications, location, internal equity, and other relevant factors.

A day in the life

The Data Engineer is responsible for expanding and optimizing our data and data pipeline architecture, as well as optimizing data flow and collection for cross functional teams. This role assists with driving data initiatives and ensures optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects.

Your responsibilities will include:



  • Creates and maintains optimal data pipeline and architecture.
  • Assembles large, moderately complex data sets that meet functional and non-functional business requirements.
  • Aids in designing and implementing internal process improvements such as automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
  • Builds the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources.
  • Builds data tools and provides actionable insights into healthcare data, operational efficiency, and other key business performance metrics.
  • Works with stakeholders at all levels to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.
  • Creates data tools for internal team members that assist them in building and optimizing our product lines into an innovative industry leader.
  • Partners with subject matter experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems.
  • Performs analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Builds processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency, and workload management.
  • Performs work under general supervision. Handles moderately complex issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.



What you need to succeed



  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field.
  • 3 years of data engineering, computer programming language(s), coding, building deployment software, designing, building and supporting ETL / ELT, database methodologies, SQL queries, business information management applications, data lakes, data warehouses, or related experience is required.
  • Healthcare industry experience is preferred!
  • Desire to problem solve and work through challenges to find solutions.
  • Strong analytical skills with a high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Be a collaborator and a team player with good communication skills when working with the team and with business stakeholders.



Equivalent combination of education, experience or training determined to be acceptable by Human Resources may be substituted, unless regulated by contract or program standards

Job posting policy

Employees new to Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota are eligible to apply for positions within their assigned department after successfully completing 90-days in their role. For positions outside of their department, new employees should attain a minimum of six months of service before applying for a new role.
