Position Summary

Description:

As a nationally accredited program with a strong educational component in The University of New Mexico School of Medicine, the Office of the Medical Investigator (OMI) investigates any death occurring across the state of New Mexico that is sudden, violent, untimely, unexpected or where a person is found dead and the cause of death is unknown. The OMI, which is a special program within the Department of Pathology, determines the cause and manner of death in these cases, and provides formal death certification. We are looking for a dynamic and seasoned Associate Director to join and help lead our team. Our ideal candidate will be highly skilled in communications with internal and external constituents in a multi-dimensional organization.

We are looking for someone with a track record of strong strategic management to work in collaboration with the Director of OMI Operations to ensure continuity in staff and faculty procedures for the day-to-day operations of OMI. Our ideal candidate will have experience in change management as well as deep understanding of change in organizations. We are looking for someone who has a great deal of experience in multi-level team development in a changing environment. Conditions of Employment
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license.
  • Ability to secure and maintain a valid UNM Driver's License.
  • Pre-employment background investigation required.
  • Must pass fit testing for required personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure proper safety compliance.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

Qualifications:

Knowledge and integrated understanding of medical/forensic investigation principles, practices, procedures, and standards.

Knowledge of the forensic investigation procedures and practices of the various law enforcement and legal agencies within the State.

Effective public speaking and media presentation skills.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively work with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.

Ability to fostering and maintaining positive relationships with media representatives, public health organizations, and community stakeholders.

Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.

Ability to analyze complex problems, interpret operational needs, and develop integrated, creative solutions with buy-in of stakeholders.

Advanced analytical, evaluative, and objective critical thinking skills.

Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.

Knowledge and understanding of integrated program planning, development, and administration within a public institution environment.

Ability to supervise and train employees, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.

Ability to provide technical guidance and leadership to professional personnel in their area of expertise.

Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
