Summary

FP&A support includes deep manufacturing and operational finance support including routine general reporting and analysis, productivity programs analysis and tracking, capital expenditure analysis and oversight, month-end financial analysis, and budget forecasting. This role works collaboratively across a matrix of business and finance leaders.

He/she must be execution oriented, work effectively with others across the organization and be customer focused. This position is very visible and will be held accountable for establishing trust and credibility at all levels. The right leader will possess a relentless approach to driving results. Most importantly, this individual must possess strong leadership skills and strong influential leadership capability.

The candidate must be a "hands on" contributor, who enjoys challenges and thrives in a demanding environment. The ideal candidate must be motivated autonomous professional, with a strong passion for the role, high level of intellectual agility and curiosity, strong attention to detail and the fortitude to stand by one's principles.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support business unit(s) budgeting and reporting processes
  • Develop business partnerships to assist in decision making
  • Achieve desired business results by positively driving accountability of key performance indicators.
  • Drive continuous improvement ("NGS") programs through automating, refining, and implementing processes, tools, and deliverables and developing robust and measurable financial metrics/outcomes
  • Actively participate in daily operations Gemba meetings on the shop floor when possible. Shadow functional areas within the value stream (engineering, production supervisors, quality, set up personnel and direct labor) to gain a better understanding of the operations.
  • Drive expense management, provide monthly reporting to functional leaders and signal early on when expenses need adjusted to achieve quarterly and/or annual commitments.
  • Coordinate internal reporting & management discussion and analysis of the financial and operating performance
  • Support the monthly and quarterly financial analysis process which includes detailed analysis of the P&L and Balance Sheet to gain specific insights and make recommendations for business improvements.
  • Proactively identify process improvements, cost efficiency initiatives, while helping to drive stronger ownership over the businesses productivity programs to drive better financial outcomes
  • Leverage and help facilitate implementation of Novanta's information systems to automate reporting, reconciliations and other financial activities
  • Ensure reporting from PowerBI and other tools outside ERP reconcile; and working with Data Analysts, develop new reporting where required
  • Ad hoc projects, as required.

General Tasks

  • Maintain strict compliance with the quality, environmental and occupational health and safety regulations and implementation of the instructions of the quality, environmental management and/or occupational health and safety officer.
  • The People Leader is responsible for maintaining and improving environmental-friendly and occupational health and safety work conditions, the prevention of environmental damage and occupational accidents, occupational diseases and work-related health hazards for his or her area of responsibility.
    Specific tasks include, but are not limited to, protecting the environment, completion of job hazard analysis and risk assessments, and conducting job-specific training.

Required Experience, Education, Skills, Training and Competencies

  • BS degree in finance or accounting; CMA, CPA or MBA ideal
  • + 7 years' progressive experience in financial planning and analysis
  • Exceptional financial, analytical, and modeling skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently, hands on manager.
  • Familiarity MS Excel, Hyperion/HFM, Oracle/SAP and PowerBI strongly desired
  • Demonstrated success in process improvement initiatives, including problem identification & mitigation.
  • Experience in the industrial manufacturing market; some medical exposure is ideal.
  • Experience working in a rigorous productivity / continuous improvement culture.
  • Very strong analytical skills and agility
  • Excellent written, verbal, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Self-starter with the demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced unstructured atmosphere with minimal supervision.

Travel Requirements

  • This role will require limited travel (10-20%) on an as-needed basis.

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting to 50 pounds
  • Standing for long periods of time
