Description

Reporting to the Tax Director, the Tax Manager partners with members of the Corporate Tax Department, the Corporate Finance Department, and the Controllers of the various reporting locations. This position is primarily responsible for all U.S. tax compliance (both direct and indirect tax, including audit management) and related quarterly and annual income tax provision support, meeting I.R.S., state, and ASC 740 guidelines. In addition, this position has overall responsibility for administering SOX compliance with respect to the financial reporting of taxes, including keeping documentation up-to-date and ensuring that key controls are being properly exercised by the respective owners. This position also assists and develops U.S federal and state tax planning. The role is a mix of leadership and hands-on work.

This position will be based in our Milwaukee, WI Headquarters. This role has a hybrid work model that supports work life balance that consists of 4 days in the office with Fridays remote with expectations there will be some busy season weeks in office 5 days.

Key Accountabilities

  • Tax Compliance and Oversight:

    • Manage the preparation and review of all federal, state, and local tax returns.

    • Manage various schedule M permanent and temporary tax items.

    • Review the preparation of tax estimates and extensions.

    • Manage indirect tax compliance team and filings (sales/use tax, property tax).

    • Lead and manage interactions with tax authorities in federal, state and local tax audits.

    • Review and oversight of all tax notices and correspondence.

    • Keep abreast of tax and accounting developments.

  • Accounting for Income Taxes (ASC 740) & Provision Process:

    • Manage quarterly and annual tax provision calculations including deferred roll forward schedules and balance sheet tie outs.

    • Review tax packages and supporting work papers prepared by senior and staff.

    • Support audit reserve accounting including maintaining uncertain tax position analysis and documentation.

    • Maintaining proper SOX compliance documentation.

    • Interact with external auditing firm during quarter provision review and SOX compliance review.

  • People Leadership and Development:

    • Lead a team of tax professionals, providing mentorship and guidance.

    • Help team set clear goals and conduct regular performance reviews.

    • Identify opportunities for professional development and career growth.

    • Foster teamwork, accountability, and collaboration with regular team workload delegation reviews.

  • Tax strategy, collaboration, process optimization, and efficiency:

    • Identify and implement tax process improvements, automation and process streamlining.

    • Assist with tax-efficient structuring and strategies that minimize risk and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.

    • Collaborate with finance and legal teams to evaluate tax impact of corporate initiatives and transactions.

    • Facilitate communication and alignment across departments to ensure tax considerations are integrated into decision-making processes.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance from an accredited university; CPA a plus.

  • 5 - 7 years of progressive experience in corporate tax, public accounting, or a combination of both

  • Experience with these or similar software: Microsoft office; CorpTax, Research Software, OneStream, Sharepoint, D365

  • Demonstrated ability to interact and work cooperatively with peers and supervisors within and outside of the department.

  • Highly competent in written and verbal communication of financial information and tax law to both accounting and non-accounting personnel.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize multiple and simultaneous projects and assignments; working additional hours as required to meet deadlines.

  • Some travel may be required.
