Reporting to the Condensed Matter & Materials Physics group, you will contribute to groundbreaking research in thermal transport phenomena within nuclear fuels and materials. Your work will focus on materials such as uranium dioxide (UO2) and tungsten (W), utilizing state-of-the-art laser metrology to measure thermal conductivity and other properties before and after irradiation.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Investigate thermal transport phenomena in nuclear fuels and materials.
  • Measure thermal conductivity and other properties using advanced laser metrology techniques.
  • Analyze data and control instruments using MATLAB.
  • Contribute to fuel design and performance code optimization with your findings.
  • Prepare technical reports and communicate results professionally.


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:



  • Undergraduate or Graduate student enrolled full time at an accredited college/university studying Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Physics/Chemistry
  • Experience or coursework with Matlab
  • A minimum overall 3.0 GPA
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. (including CPT and OPT)

Compensation and Benefits:




  • Undergraduate Internships ($25.65/hour - $30.70/hour)



  • Masters Internships and PhD Internships Pre-Candidacy ($31.75/hour - $34.06/hour)



  • PhD Internships Post-Candidacy ($33.75/hour - $36.06/hour)



  • Eligible interns are provided paid holiday time off, and many of our internships offer travel reimbursements.



  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on degree field and level of education.
