Job Summary: The Transportation and Tribal Client Manager will serve as the primary liaison between KLJ and transportation agencies, tribal and other clients. They will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships, ensuring compliance with regulations, and facilitating project approvals.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Develop and implement strategies for engaging with tribal communities, counties, states and leaders with an emphasis on the Tribal Transportation, Housing, Economic Development, and Utilities
  • Develop transportation and tribal related business opportunities and identify key pursuits. This includes development of business relationships with Tribes, counties, cities and state agencies within the region.
  • Coordinate with clients and facilitate communications between KLJ project managers and project engineers in the completion of engineering projects to ensure ongoing work and deliverables meet client needs.
  • Assist with Project Management responsibilities.
  • Represent the firm at council meetings, community events, conferences, and negotiations.
  • Provide guidance and support to the firm on matters related to tribal affairs and cultural sensitivity.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and policies affecting business opportunities and tribal relations.


Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred but Public Relations, Communications, Business Administration, or related field will be considered. Related company experience may substitute for a four year degree.
  • Proven experience in civil engineering, client management, public affairs, or a related role with a focus on tribal transportation, housing, municipal or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering projects and their impact on tribal lands and local communities.
  • Transportation experience including work with Tribal Transportation and Transit Programs.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and build consensus among diverse stakeholders.
  • Respect for tribal sovereignty and cultural values.


Preferred Skills:



  • Experience in delivering transportation and infrastructure related projects including working directly with tribal governments and communities.
  • Knowledge of state standards, codes and laws pertaining to work in the area and tribal law and the legal framework governing tribal lands.
  • Familiarity with civil engineering terminology and project development.
  • Familiarity with Indigenous communities within the Four Corners Region, including AZ, NM, CO, and UT.

  • Frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and move up to 50. Be able to walk on uneven terrain up to three miles per day


Hours and Travel



  • Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
  • Travel to job sites will be required as necessary; frequency of travel will vary and will be determined by project and client-specific requirements.
