Overview

Possesses design experience involving conventional wood framing, masonry and concrete to support new and remedial construction efforts nationwide. Evaluates and reviews design and field engineering changes during construction; ensures work quality and adherence to specifications; and performs related duties as assigned. Works under the guidance of a senior engineer to gather field/design information and perform inspections.

Essential Job Functions



    Primary Duties - Conduct field inspections and report writing for agency and equity scope Property Condition Assessments (PCAs) and Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs).

    Reputation - Promote and maintain the high reputation of Rimkus in the industry. Ensure that a high-quality technical service is provided.

    Profitability - Take appropriate action to help ensure that projects achieve budgeted levels of contribution to overhead and profit.

    Leadership - The Associate Consultant must be a strong self-starter with the ability to consistently perform with a high level of technical competence with little oversight. The Associate Consultant is an integral team member and must possess a strong desire for personal career growth.

    Supervision and Review - Review project costs and profitability in the company project management platform to ensure projects are on time and within budget. Work with other employees, subcontractors and support staff to assure project quality, timeliness, and profitability.

    Quality Control - Ensure that Rimkus' policies, systems, and procedures for technical work, budgets and timeliness are implemented on projects under control of the Associate Consultant.

    Day-to-Day Project Management

    Initiate Projects - For assigned projects, review project initiation documents which include detailed work scope/outline, budget, set ups, and schedule for completion.

    Coordinate/Communicate with Peers and Support Staff - Work with company staff to avoid or eliminate conflicts in schedules due to the various changes in projects or scope.

    Field Work - Conduct all required fieldwork in accordance with the Scope of Work (primarily Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and ASTM) to effectively gather needed data for completion of assignments. Coordinate various aspects of fieldwork with Senior Rimkus staff and/or field contacts including schedules, equipment needs, sampling protocols, interviews, and travel. Ensure project is being conducted in accordance with Scope of Work, and within allotted budgets and timing. With the assigned project team, ensure that appropriate steps and procedures are taken and that all assigned work is completed as planned and scheduled. This includes keeping the client and/or Client Manager informed of the on-going status of a project and providing adequate advice and support to the members of the project team. Associate Consultant is expected to travel at least approximately 30-50 percent, throughout the U.S.

    Maximize Project Profitability - Through appropriate utilization of resources and cost controls, maximize the profit margin on individual projects as it related to the Associate Consultant assigned roles.

    Control Costs - As part of the management of each project, ensure that costs are kept in line with the original budget for time, travel, and material expenses. Discuss variations with client or Client Manager.

    Provide Technical Advice - Contribute to the development of conclusions and recommendations for assigned projects. Provide feedback to other project team members, project managers, and Client Manager as needed.

    Prepare High-Quality Reports - Ensure that the PCA / ESA report writing process and other quality control guidelines are followed and that final reports and presentations are completed per production guidelines and most importantly the client's specifications. Exceptional writing skills and commitment to accuracy are required. Computer literacy (intermediate or better) on Windows-based programs including MS Word and Excel, Adobe Acrobat and other office-type programs.

    Technical Concurrence and Deliverable - The Associate Consultant must sign off on projects/reports only after concurring senior review. The Associate Consultant must meet stringent deadlines and provide a high-quality finished product to in-house QA/QC for review at least 24-hours prior to deadline for submission of draft product to client. Work with QC reviewer to integrate review comments into final work product.

    Other Duties - Willingness to take on new tasks, undertake additional training, and learn new skills as appropriate on behalf of Rimkus. The Associate Consultant will be required to perform other duties as assigned by senior-level personnel.

    Required Education and Experience



    • Minimum Bachelor of Science or Arts degree, preferably in engineering or architectural studies
    • 2 to 5 years of professional experience conducting environmental due diligence assessments.

    Physical Demands, Overtime, and Travel Requirements

    Physical Demands - Work is performed both in an office setting and at outside locations (i.e. Client's office, industrial, construction, and/or residential sites). Employee is frequently required to stand, walk on slope roofs, sit, climb ladders, work from stationary and moveable scaffolding (aka swing stages), bend, climb inside attics and crawl under homes and tunnels, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and drive a motor vehicle to job sites. Employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employee must be sharp, focused, and alert when conducting site inspections, speaking and interacting with clients, preparing written reports of findings. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary.

    Overtime - This position is classified as salaried with an exempt FLSA status. Regular working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with one hour for lunch. There will be periods where overtime will be required, which the employee will need to comply with in order to meet the demands of the position.

    Travel Requirements - This position requires up to 25% local/regional travel. Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.
