The Human Resources Employee Relations (ER) Manager supports the vision of VCUHS Environment and the values of integrity, accountability, respect, quality and commitment and has responsibility for designing, organizing, directing, implementing and evaluating programs that result in strong employee relations and retention.

Responsible for providing guidance and support to the Employee Relations team on issues to include but not limited to discrimination, sexual harassment, hostile work environment, violation of confidentiality, fraud and violation of federal, state or organizational laws, regulations and policy. Also, the primary focus of the role will be providing employee relations leadership and execution specifically to uniquely complex situations.

Works with HR leadership to formulate long and short-term planning initiatives that support VCUHS' mission, vision and strategic objectives. Partners with leadership and staff to provide support in the areas of performance excellence with and employee relations and retention. Assists with the development and implementation of Human Resources policies, practices and objectives to provide an employee-oriented, high performance culture.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) or Professional in Human Resources (PHR) preferred SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred

Experience REQUIRED: Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Human Resources to include three (3) years of employee relations, retention and engagement experience with demonstrated skill in group dynamic, analysis and diagnosis, intervention design and facilitation, change management and coaching or its equivalent through training, education and other related experience. Thorough understanding of negotiation techniques, dispute resolutions. Ability to remain tactful, calm, and persuasive in controversial and/or confrontational situations. Ability to maintain strict confidentially and exercise extraordinary judgement with sensitive information.

Experience PREFERRED Five (5) years or greater Employee Relations experience. Two (2) years of leadership experience preferred. Academic Healthcare experience a plus.

Education/training REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field or related professional experience. Thorough knowledge of workplace laws and regulations. Demonstrated ability to implement successful process change. Demonstrated ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to multitask and handle multiple priorities/tasks simultaneously in a fast paced environment.

Education/training PREFERRED: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field.

A passion for quality, compliance and value in all that is delivered. Must demonstrate the ability to build exceptional working relationships with both the business units and HR to establish a sense of trust, team engagement and ownership. Works well under pressure and manage responsibilities with ease and composure. Demonstrated capability for problem solving, decision making, sound judgement and assertiveness.

Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): Manages and supervises Employee Relation professionals. Manages administrative support staff and contractual consultants if applicable.

Additional position requirements: Depending on the project/workload, additional work hours and occasional evening and weekend hours will be required.
