The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) manages the efficient flow of electricity on more than 11,000 circuit-miles of high-voltage transmission lines, dispatching power from hundreds of generating units across the state.

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) applies cutting-edge technology to operating a reliable electricity system, managing competitive markets for wholesale electricity, and planning for the Empire State's energy future. The NYISO's Information Technology department invites applications for a full-time PC Technician.

Under minimal supervision, the PC Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance and replacement of all physical hardware cabling including and not limited to: WAN/LAN data, fiber optic, telephony, and RG6 performed at datacenters and offices in two local locations. This includes the planning, labeling and documentation of new installs, replacement installations, and troubleshooting of existing cable infrastructure. PC Technician is also responsible for hardware maintenance and replacement of failed parts in unified communications, client and server platforms, as well as hardware used in NYISO meeting spaces and onsite offices. PC Technicians are responsible for the maintenance and replacement of personal printers, network printers, and personal computing accessories. A solid understanding of the OSI model and network troubleshooting methods are required.

Primary duties and responsibilities:



  • Take the lead on projects to plan and execute cable installations and replacements for new and existing hardware.
  • Maintain and replace hardware in unified communications platforms, desktops, servers, conference rooms, control rooms, and offices.
  • Troubleshoot hardware issues on laptops, iPads, and PCs.
  • Follow strict cabling and labeling standards and follow specific instructions for infrastructure cabling provided by subject matter experts and PC Tech B's.
  • Work with vendors to troubleshoot services that are supported outside of the NYISO.
  • Assist contractors and vendors with installations and repairs.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot personal and network printers.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on electronic equipment, tablets, iPads, conference room hardware, and digital signage.
  • Perform inventory of computer equipment, accessories, cabling, and parts.
  • Assist Test Specialists as needed.
  • Follow all NYISO Safety Policies and Procedures including OSHA requirements.
  • Set up and tear down of audio-video equipment and/or material at NYISO meeting facilities, control rooms, and offsite locations.
  • Setup up monitors, docking stations, and cabling in individual offices.
  • Deliver hardware for approved hardware requests to requestors.
  • Perform desk moves and new desk setups as well as tear downs as needed.
  • Responsible for equipment moves, hardware retirements, and disposals.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • High School Diploma to ensure possession of adequate reading, writing and mathematical skills to perform relevant tasks, including safety compliance.
  • Good interpersonal skills are required to interface with all levels of NYISO management and internal/external customers.
  • Good mathematical and analytical skills are required to identify errors and correct them. Working knowledge of computer hardware/software.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid NYS driver's license with no violations that would prevent driving on behalf of the company.
  • The ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality is essential due to the sensitive nature of the date with which the NYISO deals, and the mandates in the ISO agreement.



Certain schedules and emergencies may require work on weekends, nights, or an occasional holiday.

Working Conditions:

The person in this position works in a normal office environment, remote locations, as well as confined and elevated spaces.
