Propulsion Systems Engineering has an exciting opportunity for a self-driven and highly-motivated Program Supervisor to join our diverse team of professionals. The selected candidate will provide programmatic and technical oversight of Northrop Grumman with focus on the COLUMBIA Class Turbine Generator sets and VIRGINIA Class Ship Service TG sets and Main Propulsion Units through diverse stages of manufacturing, test, and delivery.

As the program supervisor, this candidate will be responsible for direct interface with the Suppliers management team and Electric Boat personnel who are (1) permanently onsite or (2) on travel assignment to support engineering/technical oversight functions.

This position is located in Sunnyvale Ca (San Francisco Bay / Silicon Valley) at the Northrop Grumman Marine Systems site. Internal applicants are required to commit to a minimum 2-year relocation. Programmatic support may include the following:

    coordinate larger multidiscipline team of resources engaged in oversight activities
  • maintain oversight of support staff and serve as management point of contact for any concerns or issues experienced
  • communicate daily work plan to all Electric Boat on-site support staff
  • identify oversight coverage gaps (lack of adequate resources, or lack of specific expertise) or areas for change in oversight strategy
  • detailed schedule reviews and identification (and support of) program schedule conflicts and acceleration opportunities
  • working closely with the Supplier to ensure schedule adherence and any necessary schedule recovery efforts
  • assist in the development of independent problem and/or test issue schedule(s)
  • bolster communication between Electric Boat and its' Supplier
  • work directly with Supplier's manufacturing/program/quality/engineering leadership team to increase site efficiencies, continuous improvements and capturing of lessons learned
  • perform weekly and quarterly assessments related to supplier performance
  • candidate will report directly to the Electric Boat Program Manager stationed in Sunnyvale

Technical oversight may include the following:

  • supporting the Electric Boat Engineering teams to resolve technical issues
  • work collaboratively with the Supplier on all root cause corrective action efforts
  • production test oversight to ensure successful completion of test campaign(s) and procedural compliance
  • review new and/or revised Supplier manufacturing instructions prior to first use
  • participate in first time process reviews (FTPRs) and/or test readiness reviews (TRRs)
  • participate in pre-job briefs and support execution of critical evolutions
  • participate in job debriefs / lessons learned review(s)

This individual will work closely with the Supplier, sub-tier suppliers and Naval Reactors.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related technical field
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance from the Department of Defense

Preferred (any or all):

  • Military experience or 1+ years' experience in one of the following: construction trades, design-build-sustain, engineering, design, planning, testing or demonstrated leadership position
  • Component development and vendor management experience
  • Electric Boat shipyard experience (e.g., construction, test, certification, etc.)
  • Program management experience
  • Experience working with NAVSEA


Skills

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Willingness to assist with issues using independent judgment, ingenuity, creativity and sound decision-making
  • Strong team building skills with the ability to encourage and maintain positive cross entity relationships
  • Understanding of sub-tier supplier contracts and sub-tier supplier management practices
  • Ability to interpret technical requirements and drawings
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Experience with effective problem solving techniques
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
