Slayden Constructors Inc. (SCI), a wholly owned subsidiary of MWH Constructors, Inc. (MWH), is currently seeking a Health & Safety Manager to support critical water, wastewater, and advanced water treatment plant projects for both municipal and industrial clients. This position will be based out of the Salem, Oregon office. Focus The Safety Manager will lead and manage the company's safety program, ensuring a proactive approach to workplace safety in all aspects of self-performed water and wastewater construction. This position requires an in-depth understanding of safety challenges unique to water/wastewater environments, including trenching, confined spaces, and chemical handling. The Safety Manager will work closely with project teams to integrate safety into planning and operations, foster a strong safety culture, and maintain compliance with all relevant regulations. Essential Functions
- Responsible for managing activities related to environmental and safety control.
- Plans, implements, and coordinates programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses.
- Develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Develops accident prevention and loss-control systems and programs for incorporation into operational policies of the organization.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Provide training and guidance to employees on health and safety protocols and procedures.
- Investigate accidents and near misses and implement measures to prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate with management to promote a culture of safety and awareness throughout the organization.
- Stay informed about industry trends and new regulations to proactively address health and safety issues.
Basic Qualifications
- 4-year degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Safety & Health, Health Management or related field or equivalent combination of experience, skills, and training; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 15 years' construction and safety experience, preferably in the water/wastewater industry.
- Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures as needed.
- Strong understanding of self-performed work processes, including trenching, shoring, heavy equipment operations, and confined space entry.
- In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal health & safety regulations, including OSHA and DOT.
- In-depth knowledge of consensus standards, including NIOSH, ANSI, ASTM, and NFPA
- In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices.
- All required safety, quality, and compliance training.
- Minimum 6 years of management experience.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.

- Certified Health and Safety Professional (CHSP); or Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
