Job Summary

The Senior Rates & Regulatory Accounting Analyst will serve as a member of the Duke Energy Indiana rate department.This person will be involved in setting retail and wholesale rates for the electric utility. Familiarity with electric utility rate structures is highly desired. The Senior Rates & Regulatory Accounting Analyst would assist other team members in rate analyses and execution.

This position will be based in Plainfield, IN. This position will report to a manager/director but will work in a matrixed environment for increased career growth and diversity.

Responsibilities

General responsibilities: Provide regulatory support for Duke Energy Indiana rate initiatives, including retail rider filings, wholesale filings, retail rate cases, and joint owner transmission agreements.

  • Support Duke Energy Indiana witnesses in cost recovery processes related to retail riders/trackers:
    • Prepare related data requests, workpapers, attachments.
    • Assist with discovery request responses, drafting/reviewing of written testimony and proposed orders, and tariff administration.
  • Prepare special studies and analyses for wholesale regulatory filings and agreements.
  • Assemble financial and operational data for the annual joint owner transmission agreement studies in accordance with administration of the joint owner transmission agreement.
  • Assist in retail rate case activities to accomplish appropriate cost recovery for Duke Energy Indiana, including data requests, research, data gathering, preparing related workpapers, attachments, drafting/reviewing testimony, proposed orders, and providing support for expert rate witnesses.
  • Understand and comply with state and federal regulatory requirements related to electric rates.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders providing necessary information and answering questions.
  • Assist in the communication of regulatory and cost recovery concepts to both internal and external audiences.
  • Prepare various rate reports and statistical reports.
  • Various other duties, as assigned, which could include (but are not limited to) analyzing and updating customer price communications for selected riders, rate support for other compliance filings, and modeling of various scenarios for use in rate case or rate settlement processes.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, mathematics or other related degree
  • In addition to bachelor's degree, four (4) years minimum of related work experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrate effective accounting knowledge including understanding accounting concepts, financial reporting, account analyses, reconciliations, and journal entries.
  • Proficient in routine tasks such as calculations and reporting.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Demonstrate effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail oriented, including being able to identify, document & communicate irregularities in data and commitment to high level of accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Products: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; ability to develop and use data-driven, complex spreadsheets.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to verbally explain calculations and filings to others.
  • Time management and organization skills; ability to meet deadlines and work with minimal supervision, seeking guidance from teammates. Effectively enlist the support of others in meeting deadlines. Ability to manage multiple tasks at one time.
  • Ability to foster good relationships with teammates and employees throughout the Company. Effectively communicate with external customers. Ability to work within a matrixed environment.
  • Regulated industry work experience including understanding ratemaking principles and ratemaking models.
  • Exposure to or familiarity with the FERC Uniform System of Accounts.
  • Previous experience in regulatory accounting or experience in Duke EnergyIndiana accounting.
  • Rate case support experience.
  • Familiarity with Peoplesoft Financial System, exposure to PowerPlan Fixed Asset system, knowledge of other Duke Energy financial systems and tools such as SAP.
  • Basic understanding of electric utility generation and transmission systems.
  • Willingness to accept new assignments and organizational changes.
  • Self-starter; action-oriented, ability to manage change, and active learner.

Working Conditions

  • M - F
  • Office located in Plainfield, Indiana
  • Office environment with "neighborhood seating;" dedicated workspace in an open environment.
  • Extended hours may be required to meet deadlines, especially in periods of rate cases.
  • Local travel < 5%
