Overview

Reporting to the Director of the Clarkson School, this position is responsible for providing support for TCS. Manages and oversees all aspects of the student experience within The Clarkson School, including academic advising, management of events, extracurricular programs and works with the Area Coordinator for The Clarkson School on residential life. Advises Clarkson School students and manages the logistics for TCS events with current students and alumni and TCS summer programming. Spearhead event planning, communications and program planning functions.



Responsibilities

Academic Advising

Academic Advising and Course Registration:
* Oversee academic advising for Clarkson School students, guiding them through their academic journey.
* Facilitate course registration at Clarkson University and partner colleges, helping students select appropriate courses and explore available programs (majors, minors, certificates).

Academic Progress Management:
* Track and manage the academic progress of Clarkson School students, collaborating with faculty, staff, and the Office of Information Technology (OIT) to gather relevant progress reports.
* Regularly prepare and distribute progress reports to students and their families three times per semester to ensure they are informed about their academic standing.

Student Record Maintenance and Program Assessment:
* Keep accurate and up-to-date student records to support academic advising, personal development, and professional planning.
* Use these records to assess the effectiveness of The Clarkson School's programs and improve support for students.

Programs and Event Planning

Community-Building Activities:
* Plan, organize, and manage events that foster a sense of community among TCS students, such as orientation programs, commencement ceremonies, monthly family dinners, field trips, and other special events.

Communication and Publications:
* Develop and send the monthly Clarkson School e-newsletters to keep students and families informed.
* Oversee the creation of The Bridge annual publication, a newsletter for students, alumni, and families.

Yearbook Oversight:
* Advise the student committee responsible for the TCS yearbook, guiding them through the development and production process.
* Student Council and Community Service:
* Manage The Clarkson School Council, scheduling weekly meetings and assisting with organizing community service projects for students.
* Alumni Events and Engagement:
* Manage the logistics for TCS alumni events, including speaker visits and reunions, ensuring smooth coordination and execution.

Event Logistics:
* Coordinate the logistics for all TCS events (orientation, commencement, social events, etc.), including room and transportation reservations, communication with vendors and organizing and overseeing event details.

Calendars and Scheduling:
* Maintain calendars and schedules for TCS events, ensuring timely room reservations and planning of meetings and activities.

Other Responsibilities

Budget Planning and Strategic Initiatives:
* Assist the Director in the planning and administration of the budget.
* Participate in strategic planning efforts and the development of new initiatives to enhance the TCS experience.

Collaboration on Marketing and Alumni Relations:
* Work with Marketing/External Relations and Alumni Relations to prepare and send the yearly Bridge newsletter to alumni.



Qualifications

Education:

Master's degree preferred (for Associate level position)
Bachelor's degree required (for Assistant level position) in one of the following fields: Counseling, Student Personnel, Educational Administration or a related academic field or equivalent academic experience.

* Preferred Qualifications:
* Understanding of Academic Programs: Familiarity with academic programs designed for talented students is beneficial.
* For Associate Position (Master's degree preferred):
o 3-5 years of experience in academic advising, with a strong understanding of student development and advising practices.
o 3-5 years of experience in event planning, with a demonstrated ability to manage tasks requiring meticulous attention to detail.
* For Assistant Position (Bachelor's degree required):
o 1-3 years of experience in academic advising, with a foundational understanding of advising practices.
o 1-3 years of experience in event planning, with experience in handling detailed tasks and logistics.
* Experience in Educational Settings: Experience in higher education administration, particularly in roles that involve supporting students and faculty.
* Database System Proficiency: Proficiency with database systems such as:
o PeopleSoft Financials
o PeopleSoft Student Records Management
o Slate PeopleAdmin (preferred but not required)

* Multi-tasking in a Fast-Paced Environment: Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously, particularly in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
* Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion: A strong commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable environment that values diversity in all interactions and practices.
* Computer Literacy: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is essential; familiarity with Slate (preferred, but not required) is a plus
