About the Opportunity

A Research Assistant Professor position is available in the Department of Orthopaedics at West Virginia University. This is a full-time, non-tenure track, faculty position. WVU Orthopaedics is committed to advancing research surrounding orthopaedics and orthopaedic surgery. The primary research focus will be to investigate the influence of matrix microenvironment on tissue-specific stem cell proliferation and lineage-specific differentiation and potential molecular mechanisms using our decellularized extracellular matrix culture model. What You'll Do

The hire will design and perform experiments to understand how decellularized extracellular matrix rejuvenates tissue-specific stem cell lineage differentiation by using bench skills including but not limited to cell and tissue culture, molecular biology and epigenetic data analyses and histology and immunostaining. The hire will be responsible for grant proposal generation, manuscript preparation/submission, symposia presentations, work in progress seminars, and mentoring of students. Daily communication with the director of this lab on all aspects of work will be needed.

The Research Assistant Professor will participate in department activities. For career development of the hire, they will be encouraged and provided guidance to develop their own independent line of research in the aligned area and apply for extramural funding. The hire will gain a national and international reputation by securing extramural presentations, invitations to submit manuscripts and collaborations in the aligned field.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must have attained a doctoral degree (MD, PhD or MD/PhD).
  • A major in biochemistry, and/or cell biology, and/or molecular biology is required.
  • At least one (1) year of postdoctoral research experience and/or at least one publication in epigenetic regulation is/are preferred.
  • Experience in grant writing and mentoring students is preferred.
  • Self-starter as well as a team player.
  • Strong work ethic and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office software as well as statistical software (e.g., GraphPad Prism, SPSS, SAS).
