The Division of Student Life at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Supervisor of Mail Services.

About the Opportunity:

Under the supervision of the Mountainlair Business Manager, coordinates and supervises the daily operation of a variety of services at "Mountaineer Station" Post Office. Responsible for ensuring optimum operation of all equipment, highest service level to the campus community, and the achievement of good work habits coupled with an orderly appearance.

What you'll Do:



  • Plans, promotes, organizes, and directs a variety of services at "Mountaineer Station" Post Office. Responsible for reporting daily activity and revenue to the Student Affairs Business Operations. Responsible for preparing financial, monthly, and annual reports for submission to the Mountainlair Director on behalf of "Mountaineer Station." Responsible for complying with Federal guidelines in relation to a contract postal station.
  • Performs all supervisory/managerial duties daily as required.
  • Interviews, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates classified employees to include: one full-time/regular Postal Worker (shared with Reservations) and student workers. Provides supervision by demonstrating proper University and Federal procedures, methods, and techniques; resolving priority conflicts; ensuring that the proper equipment and materials are available; and inspecting completed work to ensure adherence to proper quality, quantity, and federal and University standards.
  • Stamps counted and placed on packages manually.
  • Supervises and performs any variety of services at a public window such as selling stamps, accepting and delivering international and domestic parcel post, mail; issuing domestic money order; renting post office boxes, receiving rental payments, and completing forms; providing information to the public concerning Federal postal regulations, mailing restrictions, rates and other matter to size, weight, postage and other mail ability requirements by use of scales and US Postal Service website. Primarily responsible for the day-to-day operation of the post office and its employees
  • Prepares daily financial report of window receipts for Morgantown Postal Annex and makes deposit of funds under local bank deposit plan. Maintains unit accounting records of window activities covering box rentals, postage transactions, and priority mailings.
  • Requisitions resale items (stamps, stamped envelopes, etc.) through the Charleston Post Office and maintains stock to ensure sufficient size and denomination variety.
  • Makes primary and one or more secondary distribution of outgoing mail for dispatch (for example by city, state, geographic area) based on knowledge of current distribution schemes established by the Morgantown Post Office.
  • Distributes mail daily to 120 post office boxes in Mountainlair.


Pay Grade: PG14

Hours: Mon-Fri 8-4p

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent
  • A minimum of three (3) years experience in a full-service U.S. Federal Post Office window using federal post office report procedures.
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Comprehensive working knowledge of Federal regulations policy and procedures relating to all phases of post office window service including international, as well as domestic mail service.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in order to effectively interact with customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and operate IRT (Integrated Rate Terminal), postage scales, meters, and charts.
  • Demonstrated ability to read rapidly and demonstrate coordination in order to sort mail.
  • Demonstrated ability to make change and balance a money drawer.
  • Demonstrated ability to make change and balance a money drawer.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and train employees in accordance to federal postal regulations and WVU policies.
  • Extensive training is essential to ensure proper assistance to a variety of students, faculty and staff utilizing this on-campus service.



Physical Demands:



  • Must be able to stand and bend for more than six hours a day. Ability to move, carry and lift up to 70 pounds.
