Rockland Trust is seeking Fraud Prevention Investigator to join the Fraud Prevention team. The Fraud Prevention team coordinates day-to-day implementation of the bank's enterprise-wide fraud prevention efforts. Our program is designed to ensure protection of our customers and the bank from illicit actors who exploit banking services with nefarious and criminal intent. Our Fraud Prevention team protects our customers and the bank from losses. The Fraud Prevention team also develops and/or assists in the development of appropriate policies and procedures, including those designated to assist the business units to conduct appropriate due diligence and to prevent, detect and report fraudulent and suspicious activity.

As the Fraud Prevention Investigator at Rockland Trust, you will have a senior role in executing our Fraud Prevention vision. You will lead and manage complex investigations, contribute to the development and refinement of targeted fraud prevention strategies, and spearhead key initiatives to enhance specific areas of our financial security framework. In this role, you will be instrumental in identifying and addressing emerging risks, ensuring the implementation of advanced controls, innovative procedures, and comprehensive training programs. Your expertise and oversight will be vital in strengthening our ability to protect the Bank, its clients, and its employees from financial threats while upholding the highest standards of integrity and security.

Duties & Responsibilities to contribute to the bank's overall strategy and risk profile include:



  • Regulatory Knowledge: Exhibit extensive expertise in interpreting and applying regulations and policies related to fraud prevention. Stay at the forefront of evolving state and federal regulations, emerging industry standards, and compliance best practices. Provide guidance to less experienced investigators on regulatory matters to ensure adherence to legal and internal requirements.
  • Advanced Case Investigations: Lead complex investigations involving high-risk or intricate cases. Analyze transaction patterns, customer behavior, and external sources. Make independent and well-substantiated determinations on account and claim actioning and relationship closures. Mentor and guide less experienced investigators on best practices in case management and investigations.
  • Investigative Expertise: As a subject matter expert, utilize advanced investigative techniques and analytical skills to identify trends, patterns, and sophisticated fraud schemes. Clearly document and articulate the rationale for decisions, ensuring that investigations comply with regulatory standards and internal procedures. Provide guidance on investigative techniques and methods to less experienced investigators.
  • Judgment and Compliance: Exercise strong, independent judgment in reviewing and managing high-stakes fraud alerts and cases. Ensure strict compliance with all regulatory and internal standards. Identify cases that require escalation to senior management or law enforcement, and provide clear recommendations on how to proceed.
  • Liaison and Support: Serve as the subject matter expert and point of contact for escalated fraud cases, collaborating with internal stakeholders, management, and external parties, including financial institutions and law enforcement. Offer mentorship and advice to less experienced investigators on how to manage complex investigations and communications with external parties.
  • Strategy and Implementation: Contribute significantly to shaping and executing fraud prevention strategies. Lead the implementation of new initiatives aimed at improving risk mitigation and fraud detection capabilities. Offer insights to management on emerging fraud trends and help guide strategic decisions that impact the fraud prevention framework.
  • Process Improvement: Take ownership of identifying and driving improvements in fraud detection processes and tools. Actively propose and implement enhancements that improve efficiency, accuracy, and response times. Mentor team members on process improvements and share best practices across the team.
  • Mentorship and Training: Act as a mentor to less experienced fraud investigators. Provide training, coaching, and guidance to elevate the team's expertise. Foster a culture of continuous learning, ensuring that all investigators stay updated on the latest fraud trends, investigative techniques, and regulatory changes.
  • Additional Duties: Proactively take on additional responsibilities to support the overall effectiveness of the fraud prevention team and contribute to the bank's strategic objectives. Participate in cross-departmental projects and provide expertise where needed.



Required Skills & Experience:



  • Associates or Bachelor's in Criminal Justice, Business, Finance, or a related field or equivalent work experience is required. An advanced degree or relevant certification (e.g., Certified Fraud Examiner) is desirable.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in fraud prevention, financial crimes investigation, or a related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal and state regulatory frameworks, industry standards, and best practices related to fraud prevention and financial crimes. Proven ability to interpret and apply these regulations to ensure comprehensive compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills, with the ability to provide guidance and support to less experienced investigators. Capable of serving as a subject matter expert in fraud prevention techniques and best practices. Ability to clearly convey investigative findings and collaborate across departments.
  • Solid understanding of various banking functions, including retail banking, commercial banking, trade finance, asset-based lending, and loan documentation. This knowledge will support investigations into fraud occurring across different banking sectors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information and recommendations clearly. Effective at collaborating with senior management, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to maintain high accuracy in performing tasks, even when facing frequent interruptions. Capable of managing multiple priorities and handling sensitive information with precision.
  • Strong ability to conduct thorough research using multiple internal and external resources. Able to gather data, analyze information, and synthesize findings to support fraud investigations and case resolutions.
  • Solid investigative and analytical techniques, with the ability to analyze complex financial data and identify intricate patterns and red flags of fraudulent activity. Ability to provide well-supported rationales and strategic recommendations based on comprehensive analysis.
  • A team player who works well in a collaborative environment while also demonstrating the ability to take initiative and work independently on tasks. Capable of contributing to the overall success of the fraud prevention team while handling individual responsibilities effectively.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel, with the ability to effectively use these tools for data analysis, presentation development, and professional communication.
