Job Summary:

Cultural Linguistic Services (CLS) within the Office of Human Resources (OHR) is proceeding to fill two Spanish<>English Interpreter, Translator & Trainer positions. CLS's priorities are to provide translation and interpretation services; facilitate workplace learning and training; offer volunteer tutoring programs; workplace computer training, deliver inclusive and effective communication training.

The Spanish<>English Interpreter, Translator & Trainer provides Spanish<>English language services including interpretation and translation verbally and in written form to departments, employees, university managers and supervisors providing language access, cross-cultural understanding, and effective communication in the workplace. The position will also identify professional development events, create learning opportunities for employees who are also English Language Learners, and support the department's Workplace Program. In collaboration with the University Staff and Academic Staff Personnel Offices, this position will coordinate and support campus outreach efforts to individuals and community agencies related to English language learning, cultural understanding groups, language, and opportunity access (not related specifically to Spanish-speaking employees), demonstrate excellence through diversity and commitment through learning for organizational success, and promote respect and the practice of civility in the workplace.


Responsibilities:
Provides language translation and/or interpretation verbally and in written form to assist in deescalating language-based communication barriers or workplace climate/culture issues to ensure comprehension of workplace information

  • 40% Provides translation services to employees, managers, and supervisors to support the communication of employment materials to individuals and groups in requested languages
  • 5% Collaborates with internal and external groups to assess and evaluate employees' translation needs
  • 40% Provides interpretation services to employees, managers, and supervisors to support the communication of employment materials to individuals and groups in requested languages
  • 5% Collaborates with internal and external groups to assess and evaluate employees' interpretation needs
  • 10% Creates, develops, implements, and facilitates team educational workshops, resources, and materials for both individuals and the organization

Education:

Required
Bachelor's Degree

Preferred degree in:
- English<>Spanish Translation
- English> Spanish Translation
- Spanish Literature
- Foreign Language emphasizing Spanish Teaching and Hispanic Civilization and Culture
- Spanish Linguistics
- Hispanic Studies


Qualifications:

Required:
- Proficiency in both Spanish and English languages
- Prior experience providing translation and interpretation services in Spanish and English
- Prior training and/or teaching experience

Preferred:
- Commitment to enhancing effective communication and language access in Spanish and English for employees
- Solid foundation and background in Spanish language
- Understanding and knowledge of Hispanic/Latino cultures
- Flexibility to work across 3 different shifts and to adjust the working schedule frequently
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload with strict attention to details, handle time constraints and adapt to changing needs and demands of services
- Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate empathetically and effectively, both written and verbally, with departments and personnel as well as customers from a wide range of backgrounds
- Ability to handle challenging, sensitive, and confidential situations respectfully and adhere to ethical principles and compliance with the code of ethics for translators and interpreters


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position will be a hybrid position. Some work will be required to be performed in-person at a designated campus work location, and some work can be performed remotely at an offsite non-campus work location.

Depending on Qualifications
Actual pay is determined at hire and is based on experience and qualifications.

Additional Information:

This position provides services to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift employees. Some evenings/nights are required.
