SUMMARY

The Test Lab Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the test lab, including scheduling, resource management, equipment maintenance, and ensuring accurate test execution. This role involves managing a team of lab technicians and engineers, ensuring compliance with testing protocols and safety standards, and collaborating with various departments to support product development and validation.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Lab Operations Management:


    • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the test lab to ensure smooth workflow.
    • Schedule and prioritize tests based on project timelines and departmental needs.
    • Ensure the lab is clean, organized, and in compliance with safety regulations.


  • Team Leadership:


    • Manage, train, and develop lab technicians and engineers.
    • Assign and monitor the work of the team to ensure efficient execution of testing procedures.
    • Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback to lab staff.


  • Testing and Validation:


    • Supervise the execution of test protocols, ensuring accuracy and adherence to industry standards.
    • Review and approve test results, providing recommendations based on findings.
    • Work with engineers to develop new testing methods and improve existing ones.
    • Creation of Testing Methods and procedures including knowledge of Design of Experiments


  • Equipment Maintenance:


    • Ensure that all testing equipment is calibrated and maintained according to manufacturer recommendations and internal procedures.
    • Coordinate repairs, maintenance, and upgrades as necessary to keep lab equipment functional and up to date.


  • Documentation and Reporting:


    • Maintain accurate records of all tests, equipment maintenance, and calibration.
    • Prepare detailed reports of test results and provide summaries to stakeholders.
    • Ensure all documentation complies with industry regulations and company policies.


  • Collaboration:


    • Work closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to understand project requirements and deliver test results.
    • Participate in cross-functional team meetings to discuss test outcomes and project progress.


  • Safety and Compliance:


    • Enforce all safety procedures within the lab, ensuring compliance with OSHA and other safety standards.
    • Conduct regular safety audits and implement corrective actions where necessary.


  • Continuous Improvement:


    • Lead initiatives to improve lab efficiency, testing methods, and equipment utilization.
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices for lab management.




JOB REQUIREMENTS



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Quality
  • 3-5 years of experience in a lab environment, with at least one year in a supervisory or leadership role
  • Must be eligible to receive information controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
  • Familiarity with industry standards (ISO, ASTM, MIL-STD) and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication/presentation skills.
  • Must have excellent time and project management skills.
  • Must have the ability to maintain accurate and organized records.
  • Must have advanced knowledge and discipline on safe work habits and OSHA requirements for the lab workspace.

  • Must be able to interact effectively and cooperatively with employees at all levels.
  • Must have the ability to complete assignments within the timeframe specified by the Manager.
  • Must be flexible regarding working hours. Must be able to work evenings and weekends, with or without advanced notice
  • Must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS



  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be occasionally required to execute standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers).
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be occasionally required to execute non-standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch).
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • This position requires repetitive hand/wrist activities.
