POSITION SUMMARY

The Director, BSA and Fraud is responsible for leading and overseeing the organization's efforts to ensure compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations, and related fraud prevention measures. This role requires a strong understanding of regulatory requirements, the ability to develop and implement strategic anti-fraud and BSA/AML programs, and leadership in managing compliance teams. The Director will ensure the organization mitigates risks associated with financial crimes, fosters a culture of compliance, and reports to senior leadership on the effectiveness of BSA/AML and fraud prevention strategies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads the BSA/AML and fraud prevention teams, including direct supervision and development of staff.
  • Develops and implements strategies for detecting, investigating, and preventing fraud and suspicious activity.
  • Ensures the company's BSA/AML and fraud prevention policies and programs are in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Works with senior leadership to develop and execute policies, procedures, and training programs related to BSA, AML, and fraud detection.
  • Ensures adherence to all local, state, and federal regulatory requirements concerning financial crimes, including BSA, AML, USA PATRIOT Act, and sanctions compliance.
  • Oversees the monitoring of suspicious transactions and ensures timely and accurate reporting to regulators (e.g., filing SARs and CTRs).

  • Conducts periodic audits and internal assessments of BSA/AML and fraud prevention programs to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Leads investigations of suspected fraud or financial crime activities, ensuring thorough documentation and timely resolution.
  • Works closely with legal, compliance, and risk management teams to ensure alignment on BSA/AML and fraud initiatives.
  • Oversees the investigation of suspicious activity reports (SARs) and collaborates with law enforcement and regulators as needed.
  • Assists with BSA and Fraud audits, and risk assessments. Works with regulators on exams and addresses audit findings

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and investigative skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and develop staff.
  • Proven ability to navigate complex compliance issues and effectively manage risk in a financial institution setting.

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, Criminal Justice, or related field required.
  • At least 10 years of experience in BSA/AML compliance, fraud prevention, or related fields within a financial institution, with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Professional certifications such as CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist), CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner), or similar certifications highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of federal and state banking regulations, BSA/AML laws, fraud prevention techniques, and industry best practices.

WORK ARRANGEMENT:

The working arrangement for this position is hybrid. Hybrid work is an opportunity to find the right balance between working in the office and remotely, especially if it supports individual success and the needs of our organization. Hybrid schedules are determined by the hiring manager based on business unit needs and may vary by department.
