About the Role

As a Part-Time Environmental Hazmat Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe handling, packaging, and disposal of hazardous waste generated in our lab.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect hazardous waste from satellite lab areas across the facility.
  • Safely package hazardous waste into drums, ensuring proper labeling and documentation.
  • Coordinate the transportation of hazardous waste with contracted vendors.
  • Dispose of old samples and containers according to established protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of waste management activities and generate reports as needed.
  • Assist with managing Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Learn and apply analytical methods and preparation techniques relevant to environmental science.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned while adhering to strict safety protocols.


What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Associate's degree or higher in Chemistry, Biology, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred.
    • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.


  • Experience:

    • 1-3 years of experience in environmental hazardous waste management is preferred.
    • Strong understanding of hazardous material identification and handling.


  • Certification:

    • OSHA-40 HRS training is required. Additional EESOH-MIS-specific training is a plus.


  • License:

    • Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.




Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Access) and other relational databases.
  • Strong physical dexterity and the ability to move and load heavy drums and containers safely using material handling equipment.
  • Excellent multitasking, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and follow established procedures.


Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Environment: Laboratory setting with regular handling of hazardous materials, requiring strict adherence to safety protocols.
  • Physical Demands: The role requires physical dexterity and the ability to safely move and handle heavy drums and containers using material handling equipment.
