Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The mission of the Division of Student Success is to collaborate with the university community to deliver targeted, impactful services that enhance the recruitment, retention, and graduation of a diverse student population. Dedicated to fostering student success, the division provides leadership, guidance, and transitional support designed to equip students with the tools and resources they need from their first day on campus to the moment they receive their diploma, ensuring comprehensive support throughout the entire student lifecycle. This division includes the offices of University Advising, New Student Transitions & First Year Experience, Academic Support Programs, and Educational Opportunity Programs such as TRiO Student Support Services and McNair Scholars.

As part of the Division of Student Success, University Advising (UA) coordinates comprehensive academic advising and retention support for all undergraduate students. Advising plays a pivotal role in student success by providing guidance in course selection and academic planning and supporting students' personal, educational, and professional goals. Departments and initiatives within University Advising include the Students First Office, Transfer Initiatives, Starfish EARLY Alert, Academic Appeals, and FYE 101.

The FYE 101 team coordinates first-year support via the delivery and instruction of FYE 101: Succeed at the G - a 3-credit hour, general education course designed to help students successfully transition to academic and student life at UNCG. In FYE 101, students will learn to identify and use campus resources, develop goals and plans related to personal purpose and interests, and build connections with peers, faculty, and staff at the University.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Advising and Student Success, the Director of FYE 101 has primary responsibility for developing, implementing, and evaluating the FYE 101: Succeed at the G course and curriculum.

Other relevant duties as assigned; some evening and weekend work required.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in higher education administration, college student personnel, pedagogy, curriculum and instruction, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of full-time experience, post master's degree, with progressive responsibility for and oversight of student success initiatives within a higher education setting
  • Prior experience teaching first-year students in a first-year seminar, transition course setting
  • Knowledge of and experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating curricula and high impact pedagogical strategies
  • Experience conducting assessment, analyzing data, applying findings, and communicating results and data trends to key constituents
  • Direct experience supervising a team of undergraduate student workers, graduate student(s) and/or instructional staff
  • Excellent organizational, teamwork, and communication skills
  • Proven ability to cultivate collaborative partnerships between academic and student affairs units to enhance college student transition, success, and retention, with a focus on supporting at-risk and high- potential populations
