Controls Engineer

Position Summary:

As Controls Engineer for our manufacturing client in Savannah, GA, you will
design, program and enhance control systems and machinery used in our production processes. You will directly contribute to improving efficiency, safety, and functionality in our operations. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will provide innovative solutions to complex engineering problems and drive continuous improvement in our control systems.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • System Design & Implementation: Design and develop control systems for automated equipment and processes to improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Programming & Integration: Program PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems to meet operational needs.
  • Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Identify and resolve issues with existing control systems to reduce downtime and improve performance.
  • Project Management: Oversee projects from conception to completion, ensuring they meet all requirements, budgets, and timelines.
  • Continuous Improvement: Regularly review and analyze system performance, proposing and implementing improvements to processes and equipment.
  • Collaboration & Support: Work closely with the engineering team, production staff, and external vendors to develop and implement system solutions.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain comprehensive documentation for control systems and ensure all activities comply with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Use of CMMS (Maximo - SAP).


Required Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Control Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field is preferred.

    • In lieu of degree, 10 years of experience with industrial controls will be considered.


  • Proven experience (3+ years) as a Controls Engineer or in a similar role, preferably in the manufacturing or industrial sector.
  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming, SCADA development, and knowledge of OT Networking.
  • Knowledge of Allen Bradley and Schneider Electric PLCs programming, Aveva (Wonderware) HMI-PLC interface.
  • Familiarity with automation and manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think analytically.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across different teams.
  • Project management skills with a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • KPI's include:

    • Reduction in system downtime and failures.
    • Improvement in process efficiency and production rates.
    • Successful completion of control system projects within the allocated time and budget.
    • Enhanced system functionality and user satisfaction.
    • Compliance with safety and industry standards.




Physical Demands and Expectations:

  • This role may require working in various environments, including office settings, production floors, and occasionally, outdoor sites.
  • The position may involve exposure to machinery, electrical equipment, and loud noises.
  • Standard working hours with requirements to work outside of these hours to cover the weekend, to meet project deadlines or to resolve critical technical issues.
  • Some travel may be required for training, vendor meetings, or site visits.
