Responsibilities:

The Y12 National Security Complex, simply known as Y12, has three primary national security missions that protect our country and our allies around the world. Maintaining the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile, reducing global threats, and fueling the U.S. Navy's nuclear propulsion program are the key activities at this historic site.

As a Senior I&C Engineer, you'll provide Mission Engineering with full time electrical design engineering support in Y12 Facility Design for facility and production area activities needed to expedite the closure of Change Requests (CRs) for Configuration Managed (CM) systems that have been Returned to Service (RTS) for longer than 90 days.

In addition to CRs RTS work, the engineer may be responsible for developing detailed design packages, providing engineering procurement and field technical support to implement those designs.

The responsibilities for the design engineer are:

  • Identify the Affected Documents associated with CRs RTS that need to be revised to reflect the work covered by the CR.
  • Perform walkdowns as needed to verify that the work covered by the CRs has been performed then review and compare information shown on Affected Documents to work defined by the CRs.
  • Prepare redline markups of Affected Documents to reflect the incorporation of the work covered by the CRs and provide the redlined copy of the Affected Documents to drafting personnel for incorporation onto the Parent CM document.
  • Provide check/verification that Affected Documents reflect incorporation of CRs information correctly.
  • Provide technical solutions to a wide range of electrical/instrumentation and control problems through the application of established engineering practices, codes and standards.
  • Prepare conduit/cable schedules, plan drawings, one-line diagrams, wiring/connection diagrams, control schematic diagrams, and associated analysis calculations commensurate with design output.
  • Prepare design output documentation for control processes using conventional analog/digital instrumentation system devices.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from a college or university accredited through the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
  • A minimum of 10-14 years of direct experience or a master's degree with 10-13 years of experience.
  • Must have familiarity with and experience in developing design output in accordance with corporate and consensus national standards (i.e. NFPA 70/ National Electrical Code, ASME, etc.).
  • Experience in Nuclear Regulatory Commission or U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulated environment is desirable along with an understanding of Conduct of Engineering and Conduct of Operations for facilities operating within a nuclear regulated environment.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with various production and support organizations review Change Requests (CRs) for systems that have been Returned to Service (RTS) >90days that have not been closed.
  • Must have 5 years of relevant experience in Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) engineering experience with a strong background in Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Must be eligible for a DOE security clearance and maintain eligibility throughout duration of employment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening exam.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Professional Engineering License (PE).
  • A DOE security clearance level Q is required; however, all candidates will be considered regardless of current security clearance status.

Location/Work Arrangement:

  • This position is full-time (40-hour work week; 4/10 Monday - Thursday).
  • Onsite position at the Y12 facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
