Instructor/Teaching Assistant Professor & Didactic Program in Dietetics Director

About This Role

The School of Health Sciences, within the College of Health and Human Sciences, seeks a 12-month Instructor or Teaching Assistant Professor to serve as the Director of the Didactic Program in Dietetics. This position will teach undergraduate nutrition and dietetics courses while collaborating with the school's Master's in Dietetics Internship. This position will report to the school's associate director.

The ideal candidate will be eligible for graduate faculty status and teach senior-level and graduate-level clinical nutrition courses. The School is willing to support a candidate earning the Ph.D. needed to do this. Tenths may be negotiable from 0.5 to 1.0 FTE for the selected candidate if pursuing their Ph.D., with the expectation of a 0.9-1.0 FTE appointment upon completion of Ph.D.

This 12-month position at the rank of instructor or teaching assistant professor has a preferred starting date of July or August 2025, with a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.


About Us

The Bachelor of Science in Dietetics is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) as a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD). Graduates of the DPD are eligible to receive an ACEND Didactic Program Verification Statement. This verification statement allows them to apply to accredited supervised practice programs, which is a required step in the pathway to becoming eligible to sit for the RDN credentialing exam. The verification statement also immediately qualifies graduates to take the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) credentialing exam to become a Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered (NDTR).

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Earned master's degree in dietetics, human nutrition, nutrition science, or related area
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with the Commission of Dietetic Registration
  • Eligible for RDN licensure in Kansas by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment
  • Three years of clinical nutrition experience as an RDN
  • Evidence of organizational skills and excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

  • To be considered for the rank of teaching assistant professor: Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree (candidates with ABD status may considered under the requirement that defense is scheduled with conferral of degree expected by August 2026)


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Earned doctorate
  • Interest in pursuing a Ph.D. or doctorate if not already earned
  • Clinical practice experience in the past 10 years
  • Experience with college/university-level teaching, program assessment, and/or program management
  • Professional involvement in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and/or state affiliate
  • Prior experience working in or with an ACEND-accredited dietetics program
  • Evidence of effective leadership and ability to work effectively with community partners or healthcare team members
  • Evidence of successful clinical and/or in-person and online teaching experience
  • Ability to work effectively and collegially with a variety of students and colleagues
