GENERAL FUNCTION:

The Specialist is responsible for creating and managing cases related to external customer alerts. This role ensures that potential suspicious activities are accurately identified and prepared for further investigation by specialized teams.

Responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and personally following policies and procedures as defined. Accountable for always doing the right thing for customers and colleagues, and ensures that actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Compile data and documentation to create accurate cases and ensure smooth handoffs to investigation teams.
  • Analyze triggers related to fraud or money laundering.
  • Input detailed information into case management systems, maintaining accuracy and consistency for investigator's review.
  • Appropriately escalate matters associated with financial crimes and fraud activity that warrant supervisory engagement.
  • Prepare reports and recommend appropriate follow-up actions.
  • Complete assigned work in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assist the supervisor with special projects, including system-related work, special investigations, or due diligence.
  • Identify and escalate alerts as necessary.
  • Responsible for process improvement and incorporating risk management into daily practices.
  • Work independently and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external customers.
  • Conduct reconciliations to ensure case accuracy.
  • Support the team with case creation requests for 314(b), subpoenas, and ensure account closures.
  • Assist with quality assurance reviews and reporting.
  • Handle potential negative news and create cases if needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.

BANK SECRECY ACT REQUIREMENTS: Responsible for adhering to the reporting and record keeping requirements of the Bank Secrecy Act and Anti-Money Laundering rules and regulations, observing economic sanctions by prohibiting transactions as specified by the Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC), following the bank's customer identification program (CIP) rules, observing all Bank policies and procedures relating to BSA, OFAC, CIP, and related acts, and participation in ongoing related training.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • One to three years of specialist experience in compliance, investigative work, or a related field.
  • Associate's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to multi-task detailed items and follow-up as needed.
  • Proactive in identifying potential concerns and following-up to resolve such issues.
  • Excellent teamwork, interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with others, initiate action, adapt to change and accept challenging assignments.
  • Ability to communicate with management.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Normal office environment with little exposure to dust, noise, temperature and the like.
  • Extended viewing of a CRT screen.
