JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Department of History and the Jewish Studies Program at The Pennsylvania State University invite applications for a Visiting Assistant or Associate Professor in the field of Holocaust history, beginning August 2025. This is a non-tenure-track, term appointment, with the possibility of reappointment. Responsibilities include teaching four courses per year (two per semester), research, and some service duties. We seek candidates who are able to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses about Holocaust history and Jewish history in Europe during the 20th century. The candidate's research focus may pertain to any area within Holocaust studies and modern Jewish history. Candidates for the Visiting Assistant Professor rank must have a Ph.D. in History, preferably in the field of modern Jewish and/or modern European history, or related field by the appointment date. Knowledge of at least one language in the field of the Holocaust studies, such as Yiddish, German, or Polish, is expected. Applicants should have a record of scholarly publications and productivity, experience in archival research, and evidence of undergraduate-level teaching experience. Candidates for the Visiting Associate Professor rank must have all aforementioned requirements, along with at least four years of undergraduate- and/or graduate-level teaching experience. In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity. The above titles will be filled, respectively, at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor or Associate Teaching Professor, based on education and qualifications.
