Position Highlights

The Office of Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) at the University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) seeks an Internal Workforce Diversity Lead (Diversity and Inclusion Professional III) to lead and strategize initiatives to recruit a diverse and representative UACC faculty membership. This role will drive the development and execution of innovative approaches to increase overall diversity and alignment with the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) mandate to enhance UACC faculty researcher member representation.

The UACC seeks to recruit University of Arizona faculty who are conducting research relevant to the mission of the UACC to alleviate the burden of cancer in Arizona. The Internal Workforce Diversity Lead will closely partner with UACC research program leaders, University of Arizona faculty affinity groups, and college and department leadership to design, implement, and evaluate initiatives and processes that ensure inclusive recruitment and retention practices and foster a culture of equity across UACC. Additionally, this role will involve high-level coordination, vested party engagement, and the ability to influence systemic change within the organization.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Advances diverse and inclusive faculty membership at UACC through the following initiatives to meet the CCSG mandate goals.
  • Identification of qualified UA faculty for potential cancer research collaboration with UACC.
  • Increase awareness on campus about UACC member benefits by conducting outreach and providing information to UA faculty, departments, and colleges.
  • Develops and oversees repository of resources for recruitment of a highly qualified and diverse member applicant pool.
  • Establish and evaluate progress and metrics to inform future recruitment efforts.
  • Develop, implement and track recruitment efforts and member candidate demographic data.
  • Make recommendations to the Assistant and Associate Directors of IDEA about improvements to recruitment processes and identify ways UA units could be optimized to improve representation of the UACC membership.
  • Set up prospective members with tools and information to accomplish the UACC membership application process.
  • Maintain strong relationships with UACC Administration and Research Program Leaders to ensure a clear understanding of the research programs and remain informed on member and program requirements in matching prospective members to overall UACC and program needs.
  • Develop a strong working knowledge of all research programs to clearly articulate program purpose.
  • Establish productive working relationships with UACC Administration, Community Outreach and Engagement (COE), and Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination (CRTEC).
  • Develop communication plans and strategies for relationship-building within the UA community to increase awareness of opportunities available for Underrepresented Minorities/Groups (URM/URG) at UACC.
  • Develop accurate, inclusive and compelling promotional materials to attract potential members, in consultation with UACC Communications and Marketing.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in the design and development of inclusive and effective recruitment practices and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with academic/higher education faculty recruitment.
  • MBA or significant business experience.
  • Previous experience in HR or working knowledge of HR policies and procedures.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (Spanish fluency).
