What You'll Be Doing as a Buyer 2:
The success of Leupold & Stevens depends upon the collaboration with and performance of our supplier partners. Buyers provide a critical connection with our partners who are essential to supporting our day-to-day success. Buyers may be assigned to a diverse range of items from raw materials to finished goods which are produced through various processes. Regardless of the assignment, the goals are to establish and ensure quality, delivery, cost, growth, and continuous improvement expectations are understood and achieved by our suppliers on a consistent basis.
In this role you'll assist our Commodity Managers with procurement of a high volume and variety of materials, supplies and services. You'll participate in bid evaluation, supplier selection, price negotiation and monitoring of suppliers to ensure their delivery, quality and service meets expectations.



  • Partners with Commodity Managers to analyze and evaluate all aspects of supply chain for assigned commodities.
  • Participates in bid evaluation, supplier selection, price negotiation and monitoring of commodities to ensure their delivery, quality and service meets expectations.
  • Monitors supply and demand of assigned commodities and initiates purchase orders to anticipate and meet supply requirements.
  • Executes system generated requisitions while monitoring inventory levels to ensure adequate supply of assigned commodities in support of company production
  • Uses innovative thinking to solve supply issues. Works with suppliers to achieve Company cost, quality and inventory goals.
  • Expedites production materials to meet schedules; maintains Purchase Order data to reflect actual supplier commitments. Creates and executes shipping documents.
  • Works cross-functionally to determines most appropriate disposition actions for non-conforming material and warranty items.
  • Coordinates with Commodity Manager and suppliers on damage claims, rejections, losses, return of materials, over shipment, cancellations and implementation of engineering changes.
  • Participates in decisions on requisition quantity. Monitors reports, delinquent P.O.'s and outstanding invoice issues reports and assists with resolution.
  • Handles majority of fact finding in support of resolving quality and inventory discrepancies.
  • Executes expense requisitions, determines appropriate supplier and initiates purchase orders.
  • Analyzes supply chain for potential improvements in cost, quality and delivery. Independently collects and analyzes data in support of sourcing decisions.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with suppliers and provides superior customer service to internal customers.
  • Maintains and interprets ERP's purchasing data in order to provide accurate information to all dependent departments and optimize material planning.
  • Other duties may be assigned.



Skills and Experience You'll Need as a Buyer 2:



  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field such as business, supply chain management, or a related discipline is required plus a minimum of 2 years purchasing experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Proven self-starter with proven purchasing skills and excellent customer service; ability to prioritize activities to complete entire workload.
  • Intermediate user of computer business applications required (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Experience working with an integrated Purchasing system (Oracle preferred).
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to use multiple sources to collect data and draw valid conclusions.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.



Work Environment for a Buyer 2:
Work is performed in a normal office environment with exposure to the manufacturing environment.
Occasional domestic travel required (estimated 10%).
