Job Summary: This position is responsible for performing high-quality troubleshooting, analysis, and repair work on heavy equipment in order to respond to customer needs in a positive, caring, and timely manner and to ensure maximum value for work performed. In addition, this position requires a detail-minded individual with thorough construction equipment knowledge.

Essential Functions:



  • Performs troubleshooting and diagnosing of equipment malfunctions and failures
  • Advises customer of problem areas, recommends repair solutions, acquires customer approval, and orders appropriate parts in order to repair equipment in a timely manner
  • Removes and replaces machine components utilizing required technical data and procedures in order to repair equipment to dealership and CAT standards
  • Maintain technical proficiency through self-study and/or successful completion of required training courses in order to increase job-related competencies
  • Performs product improvement updates as needed
  • Completes all documents associated with repairs in a timely manner
  • Maintains all equipment and work areas - keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers' needs
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., Technical Service Department Training Paths
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Advance knowledge of hydraulics, electronic controls, electrical systems/components, and core machine models
  • Thorough knowledge of equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and electronic machine systems
  • Operation and control skills - Controlling operations of equipment or systems
  • Equipment selection skills - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
  • Ability to assess the condition of used equipment and basic knowledge of used equipment values
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
  • The ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
  • Ability to work independently and within a team in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with an emphasis on accuracy and timeliness
  • Exceptional organizational, self-management, time management, and multi-tasking skills
  • The ability to read, write, and understand information
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences


Additional Requirements:



  • Must have/acquire mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard)


Education and Experience:



  • Three to five years of work-related skill, knowledge, and experience with construction equipment is required
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Valid Driver's license required, CDL preferred


Supervisory Responsibilities:



  • None


Travel:



  • Daily local trips to the customer site with occasional overnight stays are possible


Physical Requirements:



  • Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
  • Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 80 lb
  • Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
  • Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet, and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment
  • Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
  • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work
